Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Canada is seeking a detail-oriented Planner to support project scheduling and controls across engineering and construction projects. You will prepare, update, and monitor schedules, load resources, analyze variances, and report progress with guidance from senior planners.

The role requires a university degree and several years of planning experience, strong Excel and Primavera P6 skills, and the ability to collaborate with clients and alliance partners while maintaining schedules

Qualifications

  • University degree in engineering or commerce.
  • 5+ years planning and project controls experience in engineering/construction.
  • Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Thorough knowledge of Primavera P6 and ability to learn new software.
  • Strong project controls knowledge: CPM, earned value, progress measurement.
  • Strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with clients and alliance partners.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare project schedule and provide guidance to lower-level planners.
  • Load resource/budget schedule and mentor staff.
  • Set up baseline schedule and update schedules.
  • Issue schedules for internal and external use with guidance.
  • Monitor progress and report variances to Project Controls Manager/PM.
  • Present updates to Lead/Manager/Project or P&L lead.

Overview

We are looking for a detail-oriented Planner to support project scheduling and controls across engineering and construction projects. The role involves preparing, updating, and monitoring schedules, resource loading, variance analysis, and reporting. You will work closely with senior planners and project teams, contributing to effective project delivery while receiving guidance and support. This position reports to Project Controls Director.

Your Role
  • Prepare project schedule: Provide guidance and support to lower-level planners.
  • Load Resource/Budget Schedule: Lead and provide guidance and support to lower-level planners.
  • Set up Baseline Schedule: Provide guidance and support to lower-level planners.
  • Update Schedule: Provide guidance and support to lower-level planners.
  • Issue schedule for internal use: Provide guidance and support to lower-level planners.
  • Issue schedule for External use: Lead and provide guidance and support to lower-level planners.
  • Monitor and control the progress of the work against the Schedule: Provide guidance and support to lower-level planners.
  • Prepare and update Resource requirements reports: guidance and support to lower-level planners.
  • Report critical schedule issues: guidance and support to lower-level planners.
  • Identification and explanation of variances between current schedule, plan, earned values and forecasts, and communicate to the Project Controls Manager, Project Manager.
  • Present updates to Lead/Manager/Project or P&L lead.
About You
  • Must have University degree (B. Eng, BCom, etc).5 years of relevant planning and project controls experience, experience in engineering and construction projects environment preffered.
  • Proficient in MS office suite of software, especially in Microsoft Excel.
  • Thorough knowledge of Primavera P6.Ability to learn new software as per the company standards.
  • Expert Knowledge of project management techniques and a number of years of hands on experience (i.e., critical path method, progress measurement and earned value technique) and experience in Project planning, analyzing and reporting.
  • Strong organizational skills are required with attention to details.
  • Ability to establish priorities and work under pressure to meet project deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of the general project controls policies and procedures.
  • Solid communication and presentation skills.
  • Effective problem-solving skills with a results-oriented approach.
  • Ability to work well with Clients and Alliance partners.
  • Ability to work with staff, build and maintain good working relationships with Project Controls team.
