What You Would Do in This Role

The Senior Piping Material Engineer participates in the design of facility piping and pipelines from inception to completion. Your duties include:

• Reviewing Material Selection Diagrams (MSDs) and Material Selection Reports (MSRs) related to piping materials.
• Developing and reviewing piping line class specifications.
• Providing engineering and design services, establishing design criteria, and preparing specifications, drawings, models, and bills of material.
• Controlling costs and monitoring design conformance with estimates and project specifications.
• Managing project schedules and tracking tasks and deliverables.
• Supervising piping engineering activities.
• Performing detailed piping calculations.
• Participating in design reviews and HAZOPs.
• Providing technical guidance to junior staff.
• Interfacing with client representatives.
• Maintaining knowledge of industry and regulatory standards.
• Reviewing vendor and subcontractor documentation.
• Applying advanced engineering techniques to complex tasks.
• Adhering to Vista’s Quality Management System.
• Ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
• Assigning and reviewing work for technical accuracy.
• Managing change processes related to scope.
• Preparing discipline inputs for cost estimates.
• Providing construction support.
• Authenticating documents with a PE stamp as needed.
• Reviewing piping data, line lists, and work packages.
• Preparing material requisitions, bid evaluations, and MTOs.
• Reviewing valve and specialty item datasheets.
• Estimating scope changes.
• Performing flange calculations and preparing registration packages.

Requirements

• Ten years of progressive experience in facilities engineering and design in the energy industry.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering or applied science.
• Familiarity with industry codes, piping materials, pressure ratings, wall thickness, testing, insulation, coating, and tracing.
• Expertise in valve selection and trims for various service conditions.
• Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team including Process, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation, and Piping Engineers and Designers, as well as Project Management and Procurement.
• P.Eng. registration with APEGA.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong communication, organizational, and technical skills.
• Self-motivated with good time management.
• Knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
• Ability to meet safety requirements for site visits.

Preferred

Ten or more years of experience as a fully qualified engineer, with at least five in the energy sector.
