Job summary

Qualifications

  • Experience with ammonia, nitrogen, chemical processing, fertilizer, petrochemical, gas processing facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve work packages for detailed design.
  • Establish design criteria, project specifications, codes and standards.
  • Provide technical oversight of piping systems, valves, fittings, and pressure equipment.
  • Lead piping design activities for industrial facilities including hazardous environments.
  • Approve technical bid evaluations and vendor recommendations.
  • Plan and monitor piping engineering activities to meet objectives.
  • Track budgets and forecast resource requirements.
  • Mentor piping engineers and designers.
  • Ensure work complies with codes and client specifications.
  • Collaborate with process, mechanical, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and operations teams.

Responsibilities
  • Review and approve work packages prior to release for detailed design.
  • Establish design criteria, project specifications, applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical oversight and approval of specifications, drawings, calculations, and technical documents related to piping systems, valves, fittings, specialty components, and pressure equipment.
  • Lead piping design activities for industrial facilities, including ammonia, nitrogen, chemical processing, fertilizer, and other process plant environments.
  • Approve technical bid evaluations, vendor recommendations, and procurement documentation.
  • Review, approve, and disposition non-conformances, technical queries, and design deviations.
  • Plan, schedule, resource, and monitor piping engineering activities to meet project objectives and deliverables.
  • Track budgets, forecast resource requirements, and report on cost and schedule variances.
  • Identify and manage engineering scope changes and design modifications throughout project execution.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to piping engineers and designers.
  • Ensure all work is technically sound, complete, and compliant with project requirements, relevant codes, industry standards, and client specifications.
  • Collaborate closely with process, mechanical, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and operations teams to develop integrated design solutions.
  • Support HAZOPs, design reviews, constructability reviews, and commissioning activities as required.
Qualifications
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 15 years of piping engineering and design experience in heavy industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and execution of projects within ammonia, nitrogen, chemical processing, fertilizer, petrochemical, gas processing, or similar industrial facilities.
  • Extensive experience designing high-pressure piping systems, alloy piping, and process piping networks.
  • Strong knowledge and practical application of ASME B31.3 Process Piping Code.
  • Experience with piping systems handling ammonia, nitrogen, hydrogen, process gases, corrosive chemicals, and hazardous fluids.
  • Practical experience performing and reviewing piping stress analysis using industry-standard software and methodologies.
  • Experience designing slurry transport systems and utility piping systems.
  • Previous experience working on greenfield and brownfield process plant projects.
  • Experience with autoclaves, pressure vessels, and pressure-retaining equipment is considered an asset.
  • Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary project teams, mentoring engineers, and coordinating project execution.
  • Strong understanding of process safety principles, risk assessments, and industrial operating environments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients, vendors, and project stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Adaptable and flexible with changing priorities in fast-paced project environments.

Preferred Experience

  • Hydrogen, ammonia, nitrogen, carbon capture, clean fuels, or energy transition projects.
  • Experience supporting commissioning, startup, and operations within chemical or process facilities.
  • Familiarity with owner-operator environments and large EPCM project delivery models.
  • Collaborate on exciting projects to develop innovative solutions
