Job summary

Hatch in Calgary, AB, Canada is seeking a senior Piping Designer with a strong track record in industrial piping design. You will lead piping layouts, develop 3D models, and mentor junior designers on small to mid-size projects in a dynamic PDG team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years' experience focused on piping design in industrial settings.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Plant 3D is required; CadWorx, SmartPlant 3D, and Bentley OpenPlant tools are assets.
  • Graduate from a Piping Design Technology program at an accredited college or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of piping design and equipment layouts on small to medium projects.
  • Guide a small team of junior to intermediate piping designers.
  • Develop 3D piping models in an integrated CAD environment including pipe supports.
  • Preparation of PFDs, P&IDs and pipe isometric drawings; General Arrangement drawings.
  • Independent piping layout and equipment selection; review of vendor packages.
  • Participate in multi-discipline design reviews and coordinate with other disciplines.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of piping design and equipment layouts on small to medium sized projects.
  • Ability to lead and guide a small team of junior to intermediate piping designers
  • Development of 3D piping models in an integrated CAD environment including pipe supports.
  • Preparation of and updates to project deliverables including Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Piping & Instrumentation Drawings (P&ID) and pipe isometric drawings
  • General Arrangement drawings of piping layouts
  • Ability to independently layout piping and select mechanical equipment
  • Checking of all piping related deliverables
  • Reviewing and commenting on vendor packages as they relate to the piping discipline
  • Participating in multi-discipline design reviews and coordinating with those disciplines
Education and Experience
  • Must be a graduate from a Piping Design Technology Program at an accredited College or equivalent education
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience focused on piping design in an industrial setting
  • Experience with the AutoCAD Plant 3D required. Experience with CadWorx, SmartPlant 3D and the Bentley suite of Open Plant tools is an asset.
  • Experience with Piping Design in the midstream, pipeline and oil sands industries preferred
