Job Summary

Jabil is looking for a Photonics/Optical Test Development Engineer to become part of its growing Test Engineering team. As a Test Development Engineer, you will be responsible for developing test solutions for photonics/optics products, including creating test strategies and plans, selecting and sourcing test equipment and fixtures, developing automation software, and deploying solutions globally at manufacturing sites and labs.

You will work closely with customers and cross-functional teams (R&D, Manufacturing, Program Management, Quality) to deliver optimized manufacturing test solutions. You will also support R&D in evaluating early product releases.

You should be a strong team player and play a key role in defining future test strategies for the team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Develop and optimize manufacturing test strategies for new and existing photonics products.
2. Develop test plans for manufacturing and design verification, ensuring coverage, efficiency, and capacity planning.
3. Design test hardware solutions, including selecting equipment and designing fixtures/PCBAs.
4. Develop test software, including automation scripts, GUIs, and data analysis tools using languages like Python, C#, MATLAB.
5. Verify test station operation, performance, and robustness.
6. Perform hands-on DVT of prototypes and maximize reuse of DVT software.
7. Generate documentation such as test plans, procedures, manuals, and analysis reports.
8. Provide training on testing and diagnostics.
9. Support root cause analysis and troubleshooting activities.
10. Assist in developing budgets, quotes, and estimating costs for projects.
11. Collaborate with teams to develop schedules and execute projects.

Development of test solution quotes

• Define test strategies for challenging products/technologies.
• Create quotes including costs, schedules, hardware/software descriptions, and validation criteria.
• Use automated tools for quote development and ensure timely completion.

Company Policies

• Follow safety, health, and security procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Management & Supervisory Responsibilities

• Report to the Manager of Test Engineering.
• Coach team members and promote best practices.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Mandatory:

• Experience testing photonics technology.
• Strong English communication skills.
• Understanding of manufacturing test strategies for optical products.
• Experience with optical test equipment (e.g., power meters, spectrum analyzers).
• Knowledge of optical concepts (power, wavelength, polarization, SNR).
• Understanding of optical characterization techniques (bit error rate, eye diagrams).

Beneficial:

• Experience with test automation software (Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, etc.).
• Experience testing pluggable transceivers.
• Experience supporting manufacturing sites.
• Experience with PCB functional testing.
• Developing cost-effective test stations.

General:

• Root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills.

• Ability to manage projects, schedules, and budgets.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
• At least 5 years in a test development environment.
• Or equivalent experience and training.
• Willing to travel up to 15%, often internationally.
