Job description

Hours: 22.2 hours/week, minimum 15 hours/week (9-12 month fixed term post)

This post may be combined with part-time hours in the acute clinical pharmacy service or primary care pharmacy service if full-time hours are preferred.

The post will also support weekend and public holiday service provision as part of the wider pharmacy team.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated pharmacist to lead our pharmacy clinical trials team for 9-12 months to cover maternity leave. This is a part-time post, but there may be an opportunity to combine it with a post in the clinical pharmacy service or primary care pharmacy service if additional hours are preferred. This opportunity could also be undertaken as a secondment.

As the responsible pharmacist for clinical trials, you will lead, plan, organise, and deliver the pharmacy clinical trial service across NHS Fife. You will work collaboratively with research teams to provide professional advice to aid in the planning of clinical trials and contribute to good clinical governance in the use of medicines. You will manage the operational aspects of clinical trials, line manage team members, and be expected to actively participate in regional or national programmes related to clinical trials. You will have a clinical commitment and will support the Head of Pharmacy - Development & Innovation in the strategic and operational development of the pharmacy service to NHS Fife.

You will be based at either the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy or Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline; however, you will be required to be flexible to work across NHS Fife hospital sites.

It is essential you have a Master of Pharmacy Degree or equivalent and are a member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). A postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience is essential, and it is desirable that you are an independent prescriber. You will have significant post-registration experience of pharmacy practice, including clinical trials, sound clinical knowledge, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and comprehensive IT skills.

Fixed Term/Secondment Opportunity

Existing permanent employees must first discuss this opportunity with their substantive line manager. The secondment policy can be found here. If you do not have approval for a secondment from your current line manager, you will not be able to progress your application for a fixed-term post. External applicants with continuous NHS Service must also have a secondment agreement in place from their existing board to apply for this post.

For informal enquiries, please contact Sandee Beattie, Senior Pharmacist – Clinical Trials, at sandee.beattie@nhs.scot, or Sally Tyson, Head of Pharmacy – Development & Innovation, at sally.tyson@nhs.scot.

A requirement of this post is to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme prior to appointment.
