The Registered Staff Pharmacist is responsible for dispensing prescribed pharmaceuticals and compounds, and providing consultative services to clients and healthcare providers, in accordance with all laws and responsibilities set by the Provincial Regulatory Body and McKesson Canada. The Senior Manager, Pharmacy or Pharmacist Supervisor role is a successor role for the Pharmacists.
Specific Responsibilities
The specific responsibilities generally include, but are not limited to:
- Filling, verifying, and dispensing medications accurately
- Supervising pharmacy caseworkers, assistants, technicians, and other staff
- Providing pharmacist services, including patient counseling and follow-up for prescriptions
- Ensuring prescription pricing accuracy and established payment methods
- Delivering prescriptions to appropriate sites as per patient request, regulation, and cold chain requirements
- Providing customer service to clients and stakeholders (Patients, Healthcare Professionals, Industry Partners, etc.)
- Adapting, renewing, and initiating prescriptions following Provincial College rules, working to full scope of practice
- Providing medical information to patients and healthcare professionals
- Adhering to guidelines, SOPs, and regulatory requirements
- Submitting Adverse Events (AE) and Product Quality Complaints (PQC)
- Working flexibly during overlapping shifts within pharmacy hours
- Overseeing staff compliance with pharmacy laws and regulations
- Upholding McKesson i2Care and iLead Principles in line with McKesson Code of Conduct
- Ensuring policies and standards are prioritized in activities and decisions
- Maintaining privacy standards
- Monitoring accounts receivable and temperature controls
- Completing required training and other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Knowledge
- Bachelor or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree
- Valid license in good standing with the College of Pharmacists
- Professional Liability Insurance
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of retail pharmacy practice
- Understanding of biologics and specialty medications
- Self-directed and independent work capabilities
- Proficiency with Kroll and its capabilities
- Clinical expertise in major therapeutic areas for Specialty Pharmacy Services
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Accountability and results-oriented mindset
- Proficiency in MS Office
Experience
- At least one year of full-time employment in hospital or retail pharmacy
- Bilingualism (English/French) or multilingual abilities are assets
- Experience in clinical trials, medication reimbursement, or regulatory environments is advantageous
Supervision and Communication
- Communication with PSP, Navigation, INVIVA clinics, Medical clinics, Pharmacy, Patients, and drug plans
- No direct reports
