Job summary

Atlantic Packaging is seeking a Senior Payroll Administrator to support our Scarborough operations. You will manage Canadian weekly payroll, entering hours in Dayforce, and ensuring compliance with payroll policies and legislation.

The role requires at least 5 years of payroll experience, knowledge of Canadian payroll rules, and experience with Ceridian Dayforce and UKG. A Payroll Compliance Professional certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience administering payroll in accordance with Canadian payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
• Minimum 5 years of payroll experience.
• Certification: Payroll Compliance Professional or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Process Canadian weekly payroll for employees in compliance with policies and legislation.
• Enter hours from timesheets into Dayforce with required cost allocations.
• Process payroll transactions and prepare Dayforce payroll files.
• Cross-train and provide backup for other payrolls as needed.
• Audit Kronos timecards and correct discrepancies.
• Maintain deductions including union dues and benefits.
• Update payroll tracking spreadsheets and reconcile with payroll registers weekly.
• Prepare wage increase documentation and communicate to managers.
• Set up new hires in payroll systems and ensure documentation is complete.
• Process terminations in compliance with standards and EI requirements.

The Opportunity

A service-driven paper and packaging products company, Atlantic Packaging has grown to become one of Canada's largest paper manufacturers and a leading producer of packaging products. Our organization employs approximately 2000 people at multiple manufacturing plants and distribution centers. We are looking for a Senior Payroll Administrator for our Scarborough location.

What You’ll Do

• Process Canadian weekly payroll for employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and legislative requirements.
• Enter employee hours from timesheets and timecards into the Dayforce payroll system, including required cost allocations.
• Process payroll transactions for assigned employee groups and prepare payroll transaction files for Dayforce.
• Cross-train and provide backup support for other payrolls as required.
• Audit and maintain Kronos timecards, investigating and correcting discrepancies.
• Maintain employee deductions, including union dues, group insurance, and arrears management.
• Update and reconcile payroll tracking spreadsheets with payroll registers on a weekly basis.
• Prepare requisitions and process payments for payroll-related deductions when due.
• Maintain rate review schedules and monitor upcoming wage increases.
• Prepare employee wage increase documentation and distribute to managers for approval and communication.
• Set up new hires in payroll systems and ensure all required documentation is received and processed.
• Review and process rate changes in accordance with collective agreements and approved authorization procedures.
• Process employee terminations, ensuring compliance with employment standards, labor legislation, and Employment Insurance requirements.
• Verify payroll registers against source documentation, input records, timecards, supporting documentation, and batch totals to ensure payroll accuracy.
• Maintain and update payroll procedures, manuals, and process documentation.
• Organize and maintain departmental filing systems and employee payroll records.
• Perform additional payroll and administrative duties as assigned.

What You Bring

• Demonstrated experience administering payroll in accordance with Canadian payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
• 5 years experience in a payroll position
• Payroll Compliance Professional
• Experience with Ceridian Dayforce
• Experience with UKG Workforce Time & Attendance or similar
