Senior PTE P&C Engineer

Roles and Responsibilities
  1. Perform testing and commissioning of Protection and Control systems on high voltage substations.
  2. Perform, or supervise, on-site hands-on protective relay testing using relay test sets such as Omicron CMC 256 / 356 or Doble F6150. Examples of relays to be tested include SEL-311L, SEL-387, SEL-487, SEL-421, SEL-351S, GE L90, GE D60, among others.
  3. Contribute to technical and safety development.
  4. Support Project Lead or Field Supervisor on projects.
  5. Perform Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
  6. Accurately document test results and produce field reports in requested formats.
  7. Read and understand electrical drawings and schematics.
  8. Perform clerical responsibilities such as timecards, expense reports, and project reports.
Required Education / Experience
  1. A Bachelor of Science in Engineering; preferably electrical, or electrical technology.
  2. Five to ten (5-10) years of professional experience in the electrical testing industry, including experience with medium and high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testing.
  3. Expertise in transmission, generation, and distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, GE families) and protective schemes.
  4. Skills related to protective relays include relay calibration using test sets such as Omicron CMC 256 / 356 and Doble F6150, control scheme testing, testing sensing CT / PT circuits, uploading settings to microprocessor relays, and static & dynamic testing of microprocessor-based relays.
  5. Experience with Electrical Field-Testing standards, practices, and procedures such as NETA, IEEE, NFPA applicable standards.
  6. Knowledge of testing electrical distribution, generation, and transmission projects with voltage levels from 15 kV to 500 kV, including protective relays and circuit breakers.
  7. Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  8. Detail-oriented with excellent analytical skills and mathematical capabilities.
  9. Working knowledge of computer systems and relay software, including project environment skills.
  10. Experience with computer-controlled solid-state test equipment (e.g., Omicron, Doble).
  11. Proficiency in testing software such as ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, and AcSELerator Quickset.
  12. Proficiency in administrative software: MS Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  13. Experience managing electrical drawings.
  14. Ability to stand for long periods and lift 50+ lbs with or without accommodation.
  15. Regional travel up to 90%.
Desired Education / Experience
  1. Experience testing and troubleshooting electromechanical relays.
  2. Experience testing and commissioning electrical equipment such as CTs, CCVTs, PLC systems, and DC systems including batteries and chargers in high voltage substations.

Base Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000 per year

This range complies with state and local regulations. Salaries are based on experience, knowledge, and education. Additional compensation may include bonuses, benefits, vacation, and 401(k) matching.
