Job Description

The Senior Network Designer is capable of efficient RF system design for CATV networks for various types of projects, including new builds (Single Family Units - SFU / Multi Dwelling Units - MDU), forced relocations, rebuilds, and extensions. Design projects are executed using client-provided software and include forward and reverse paths and powering. The role involves coordinating with Permitting to ensure permits meet customer expectations for cost, quality, and timeliness, ensuring adherence to the build schedule. Knowledge of splicing for CAOX and fibre cables is required.

Work Location and Conditions

This is a remote work opportunity, with occasional site visits within the Ottawa area. Must have access to a personal vehicle.

Responsibilities
  1. Designing plant changes with minimal impact and cost, ensuring quality
  2. Organizing materials for team use in plant extension and as-built designs
  3. Creating and tracking drawings for permits and construction, including specialty permits
  4. Communicating with authorities to obtain permits in a timely manner
  5. Updating RF and fibre design databases and system maps
  6. Completing system design based on cable data, power analysis, and node placement
  7. Managing fibre optic and CATV network designs, including modifications during as-built stage
  8. Generating reports and data sheets for design and splicing stages
  9. Managing construction plans post-permitting and design phase
  10. Quality control throughout project lifecycle, managing budgets and hours
  11. Tracking project progress using management software to ensure schedule adherence
  12. Performing other duties as assigned to meet company objectives
Candidate Requirements
  • College Diploma in Engineering Technology or related field
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in fibre and coax network design
  • Proficiency with SpatialNet, SpatialSight, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office
  • Strong analytical, judgment, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of outside network standards is an asset
  • Self-disciplined, effective in fast-paced environments, capable of working under pressure, a team player, autonomous, adaptable, and able to multitask
  • Excellent QC skills
  • Owns a personal vehicle for site visits
