Job summary

Opticca Consulting Inc. seeks a highly experienced Senior OpenStack Engineer to design, deploy, integrate, and support highly available private-cloud infrastructure. The role blends deep Linux administration with compute, networking, storage, automation and cloud operations.

The successful candidate will own complex technical work from discovery through implementation, stabilisation and handover, working across teams in a collaborative consulting environment.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of Linux systems or cloud infra experience, including at least three years administering OpenStack in production.
• Strong knowledge of OpenStack architecture, service dependencies, APIs, multi-tenancy and high-availability patterns.
• Advanced Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration, including systemd, networking, storage and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with Neutron networking, Open vSwitch or OVN, KVM/libvirt virtualization and enterprise IP networking.
• Experience with Ceph or similar software-defined storage, including performance considerations.
• Strong automation skills with Ansible and scripting; comfortable with Git, APIs, YAML, JSON and repeatable deployment pipelines.
• Ability to lead technical discovery and document operational solutions; French required, English for collaboration with clients outside Quebec.

Responsibilities

• Design scalable and highly available OpenStack architectures for control, compute, network, storage, API and messaging services.
• Deploy, configure, upgrade, patch and operate OpenStack using the organisation’s lifecycle and automation framework.
• Administer and troubleshoot core services such as Nova, Neutron, Keystone, Glance, Cinder, Swift, Horizon, Placement, Heat.
• Engineer tenant and provider networks with VLAN/VXLAN overlays and load balancing.
• Integrate Ceph and enterprise storage platforms; manage capacity and resiliency.
• Operate KVM/libvirt-based compute, host aggregates and live migration.
• Automate installation and day-2 operations using Ansible, Python and IaC practices.
• Implement monitoring, logging, capacity planning, patch governance and security hardening.
• Lead root-cause analysis for complex OpenStack failures; create designs and transfer knowledge to operations.

About The Opportunity

Opticca Consulting is seeking a highly experienced Senior OpenStack Engineer to design, deploy, integrate, and support highly available private-cloud infrastructure.

The role combines strong Linux administration with deep knowledge of compute, networking, storage, automation and cloud operations.

The successful candidate will be expected to own complex technical work from discovery and design through implementation, stabilisation, documentation and operational handover.

You can expect to

• Design scalable and highly available OpenStack architectures for control, compute, network, storage, API, database and messaging services.
• Deploy, configure, upgrade, patch and operate OpenStack using the organisation’s selected lifecycle and automation framework.
• Administer and troubleshoot core services such as Nova, Neutron, Keystone, Glance, Cinder, Swift, Horizon, Placement, Heat and supporting services.
• Engineer tenant and provider networks, VLAN/VXLAN overlays, routing, security groups, floating IPs, load balancing, high availability and north-south connectivity.
• Integrate Ceph and enterprise storage platforms; manage capacity, performance, resiliency, backup, recovery and failure scenarios.
• Operate KVM/libvirt-based compute, host aggregates, availability zones, flavours, images, scheduling, live migration and hardware acceleration where required.
• Automate installation, configuration, validation and day-2 operations using Ansible, Python, shell scripting, APIs and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, capacity planning, patch governance, configuration standards and security hardening.
• Lead root-cause analysis for complex failures across OpenStack services, Linux hosts, networks, storage, databases, messaging and API dependencies.
• Create low-level designs, build guides, operational procedures, upgrade plans, test plans and as-built documentation; transfer knowledge to operations teams.

Required Qualifications

• Five or more years of Linux systems or cloud infrastructure experience, including at least three years administering OpenStack in production.
• Strong knowledge of OpenStack architecture, service dependencies, APIs, identity, multi-tenancy, quotas, scheduling and high-availability patterns.
• Advanced Red Hat Enterprise Linux or equivalent Linux administration skills, including systemd, networking, storage, performance, security and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with Neutron networking, Open vSwitch or OVN, KVM/libvirt virtualization and enterprise IP networking.
• Experience with Ceph or comparable software-defined storage, including performance and failure-domain considerations.
• Strong automation skills with Ansible and scripting; comfort working with Git, APIs, YAML, JSON and repeatable deployment pipelines.
• Ability to lead technical discovery, make defensible design decisions and document operational-supportable solutions.
• Professional working proficiency in French; English is required for collaboration with clients, vendors and technical teams outside Quebec.

Preferred Assets

• Red Hat Certified System Administrator/Engineer or OpenStack-related certification.
• Experience with Red Hat OpenStack Platform, OpenStack Services on OpenShift, Kolla-Ansible or another enterprise deployment framework.
• Experience with Ironic bare-metal provisioning, Octavia, Barbican, Manila, telemetry or multi-region architectures.
• Experience delivering private-cloud migrations, upgrades or platform remediation in regulated environments.

Education and Certification

• College diploma or university degree in computer science, engineering, information technology or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Applicable Red Hat and industry certifications are valued but do not replace demonstrated hands-on capability.
