JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Nanofabrication Scientist to lead the development, optimization, and execution of nano- and micro-fabrication processes for advanced photonic and optical devices in a Class 100 cleanroom environment. The role is hands-on and requires developing, optimizing, and following cleanroom protocols and SOPs. The Senior Nanofabrication Scientist will contribute to research and development programs for new nanofabrication procedures and process improvements. The team will rely on your expertise in cleanroom operations, critical thinking, and meticulous documentation to develop repeatable nanofabrication processes. Responsibilities include designing and executing nano-fabrication processes, from wet chemistry to electron beam lithography. Experience in various nanofabrication areas is highly valued.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The functions listed below are essential for fulfilling this role. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Nanofabrication - Learn and develop micro- and nano-fabrication processes in a Class 100 cleanroom, including operating and maintaining a JEOL JBX-6300 100kV EBL system.
  • Process development – Design process steps and flows, conduct experiments to improve and test processes, troubleshoot technical challenges with innovative solutions to reduce delays and waste.
  • Device and material analysis - Characterize nanostructures and materials, collect data, and develop models.
  • Maintenance - Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on lab tools.
  • Reporting – Keep detailed records, SOPs, process flows, and deliver progress reports. Present findings to stakeholders.
  • Collaboration & Leadership – Mentor junior team members, collaborate with research teams, stay updated on emerging technologies, and integrate best practices.
  • Organization - Ensure materials are properly filed and accessible.

Additional skills include knowledge of photonics design and simulations (FDTD), nanoimprinting (NIL), and electroforming techniques.

Qualifications include:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Science, or related fields.
  • 5+ years of hands-on nanofabrication experience, including electron beam lithography.
  • Proficiency with wet processing, thin-film deposition, lithography, etching, nano-characterization, and safety protocols.
  • Motivated, self-driven leader capable of prioritizing tasks, meeting deadlines, and communicating technical information clearly.
