Job summary

Apple is seeking a high-energy machine learning engineer to join our News and Books AI team in Vancouver. You will design scalable ML services for text extraction, search, ranking, and recommendations, collaborating with software engineers and product partners.

You will develop datasets, craft model architectures, and train or fine-tune models, mentoring junior engineers and delivering production-ready features that touch millions of Apple customers.

Qualifications

• MS in ML, CS or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years shipping ML models in products.
• Proficient in Python/Java; experience with PyTorch/TensorFlow.
• Experience designing user-facing ML features with interdisciplinary partners.
• Experience with recommender systems.
• Experience with text-centric AI/ML (LLMs, document classification, search).
• Experience delivering high-quality software at scale.
• Strong communication and collaboration with partner teams.
• Commitment to inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement state-of-the-art AI/ML that processes news, stocks, and books data to drive recommendations, power advanced search, and enable next-generation AI features.
• Develop datasets, design model architecture, and prompt, train, or fine-tune models.
• Partner with multi-functional teams at the intersection of technology and liberal arts to design and implement end-to-end machine learning enabled features.
• Drive application features from concept, model design, and development all the way to delivery.
• Lead highly cross-functional software projects.
• Mentor junior engineers.
