Job summary

Canadian Cancer Society is seeking a Senior Manager of Mission Communications to develop and execute strategic communications that elevate our mission programs, drive revenue, and protect CCS’s reputation among donors and the public. You will provide strategic counsel to cross-functional partners and guide multi-channel campaigns.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, public relations, political or social science, public health, journalism or related field.
  • At least 5–10 years of progressive experience in communications strategy with a focus on advocacy, research or support service communications.
  • Knowledge of federal, regional and provincial government decision-making processes and advocacy, lobbying, media relations and community engagement tactics.
  • Extensive knowledge of research or science communications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft tools including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and SharePoint.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the development, execution and evaluation of strategic communications plans to support CCS programs.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to CCS teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve public narratives for CCS priority issues.
  • Provide strategic communications and issues management counsel.
  • Support advocacy activities through effective communications strategies.
  • Support research communications to raise profile and revenue.
  • Lead and mentor a team of communicators.
