Job description

Calian is seeking Senior Military Occupational Instructors (MOC) to join our team at CFB Borden, ON. These full-time positions will support the upcoming training serial. The successful candidates will provide expert instruction in military supply chain management, specifically in QL3, QL5, QL6A Material Management, and preferred ALNG Control and Packaging of Hazardous Materials. The role involves engaging students in both asynchronous and synchronous teaching methods, facilitating the learning process through real-world experience, curriculum development, and student assessments.

Responsibilities

Tasks may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Providing expert instruction in the knowledge and/or skills required to perform duties effectively as a CF member in Material Management and Hazardous Materials packaging.
  • Enhancing and adding value to assigned course curriculum with personal expertise and professional experience.
  • Using MS Office Suite, MS Teams, and other DND IT systems for course communication, activities, and evaluations.
  • Preparing and developing lesson plans for both in-person and online environments.
  • Assisting in the design, delivery, and evaluation of training activities and assessments.
  • Coordinating with assigned Course Director (CD) and Incremental Staff (IS) to ensure proper alignment of instruction.
  • Producing and marking student assignments and assessments in accordance with rubrics and course training plans (QL3, QL5, QL6, and ALNG Control & Packaging of Hazardous Materials).
  • Providing feedback to students after each week’s activities, highlighting key lessons and addressing any issues within the syndicates.
  • Conducting and participating in synchronous student engagement sessions, including office hours and initial orientation.
  • Providing safety support by administering immediate first aid to students and unit personnel if needed during training activities.

Qualifications

  • Instructor Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience delivering material management training, with expertise in military supply chain operations, including QL3, QL5, and QL6 courses.
  • Hands-On Field Expertise: At least 5 years of practical experience in material management, inventory control, and hazardous material packaging in a military context, with a strong emphasis on operational logistics and the shipping of dangerous goods.
  • Preferred: Materials management experience in the shipping of dangerous goods, including compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Safety & First Aid Certification: Valid Standard First Aid certification and a commitment to maintaining safety standards during all training activities.
  • Language Requirement: French language skills are preferred to ensure effective communication with all students.
  • Preferred Experience: A background in materials management specifically related to the shipping of dangerous goods is preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some of the area and overnight travel may be expected.
  • You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level.
