Job summary

Agnico Eagle Mines Limited is seeking a Senior Metallurgist for our Arctic operations. You will coordinate the Process Plant Metallurgists and technicians, drive KPI reviews, ensure safe and efficient circuits, and manage budgeted costs while supporting continuous improvement in metallurgical performance.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in mining/metallurgical/chemical engineering and at least 10 years in mineral processing, with strong analytical skills and leadership ability for team

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mining and Mineral Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in mineral processing.
• Sound technical and analytical skills, good judgment.
• Experience in the Canadian Arctic is an asset.
• Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills; team oriented.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate all activities of the Process Plant Metallurgists, Metallurgical Technicians and Refiners to ensure reliable performance of all circuits.
• Review KPI performance, quality control, and budget/cost management while promoting safety and environmental responsibility.
• Oversee sampling results, ensure sampling plans, mass balance, daily production reports and inventory accuracy.
• Train metallurgists and technicians and provide operator support for metallurgical improvements.
• Plan and budget metallurgical activities for the coming year, including procurement and cost tracking.
• Ensure reports (daily, weekly, monthly) comply with SOX and management requirements.

YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE

• Reporting to the Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent, Process Plant, you will be part of the Process PlantDepartment. You willcoordinate all activities of the Process Plant Metallurgists, Metallurgical Technicians and Refiners.You will ensure the reliable performance of all circuits of the process plant, as well as playing a key role in the review of the key performance indicators (KPI’s), in quality control and budget/cost management. You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s culture, Health & Safety Code of Conduct, and the environment.


• Coordinate activities of the Metallurgical team (including the refinery) to achieve departmental objectives sustainably;


• Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe and environmentally responsible way;


• Ensure the metallurgy group apply the supervision formula adequately;


• Coach Metallurgists and Metallurgical Technicians;


• Oversee sampling results, ensuring the sampling plan, practices, mass balance, daily production reports, and inventory are accurate;


• Review and approve procedures content, ensuring that they are followed by the group;


• Ensures that metallurgists provide operator and technician training on the various circuits with an understanding of metallurgical results;


• Provide support to the operation for metallurgical performance improvement by giving the reasons and origins of the metallurgical team's instructions by proposing the appropriate tools to increase the company's profitability;


• Plan and budget the metallurgical activities ahead by 1 year, analyzing needs in terms of procurement (reagents, grinding media, process consumables, etc.), ordering materials and following up on actual costs and variances monthly;


• Review and approved daily, weekly, and monthly production and performance reports, must also ensure that all reports are compliant with SOX;


• Promote continuous optimization of the process, identify proactively areas of improvement, coordinate trials, document findings in reports, act as a change agent, and keep the control plans up to date;


• Promote different approaches with research centers or other contact persons to elaborate or follow up on new projects and/or developments. Ensure follow-up with external laboratories for analysis and research work.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

• Bachelor’s degree in mining and Mineral Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or Chemical Engineering or extended technical experience in the gold mining industry.


• Minimum 10 years of experience in mineral processing;


• Sound technical and analytical skills, good practical judgment;


• Cultural awareness and understanding of work in the Canadian Arctic are an asset;


• Excellent interpersonal skills, lleadership skills and ability to work in a team;


• Self-sufficient; effective time and priority management


• Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office software, especially Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.


• Note that the official working language at Meliadine is English.

Your Work Schedule:

Schedule: 14 days of work, followed by 14 days for transportation and rest;
