Reports to : Head of Medical Physics

Shifts : Weekdays Monday Friday

Status : Permanent Full Time

Position Description :

The Department of Medical Physics and the Radiation Medicine Program at the Princess Margaret (PM) Cancer Centre is seeking interested applicants to fill a permanent fulltime position of Senior Medical Physicist. While the successful candidate will be part of the leadership team of Medical Physics at PM the role focuses on leading the Medical Physics Department at Stronach Regional Cancer Centre (SRCC) as the department head under a partnership between PM and Southlake Regional Health Centre.

  • Supervising new technology implementation
  • Enhancing quality assurance protocols
  • Ensuring smooth operation of the support services

Qualifications :

The successful candidate holds a PhD degree in Medical Physics or related field as well as FCCPM and have at least 8 years of clinical experience. They must be able to demonstrate leadership skills in managing a team leading clinical operation or research. Preference will be given to candidates who have sustained academic productivity as evidenced by publications grants book chapters and committee activity in professional and scientific societies (COMP AAPM ASTRO ESTRO etc). Vaccines (COVID19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless one has an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.

The Radiation Medicine Program at SRCC provides advanced radiation treatment to 1700 patients annually in its catchment of York and South Simcoe regions bringing stateoftheart treatment closer to home. Equipment in the Radiation Medicine Program includes 5 Elekta linear accelerators of the latest models and MosaiQ as the radiation oncology information system. A Philips bigbore CT simulator and a Siemens Vision 600 PETCT are on site for radiotherapy simulation. Our treatment planning system is currently transitioning from Pinnacle to RayStation.

The successful candidate will lead a dynamic team of 5 physicists 2 physics associates 3 accelerator service technologists a physics system analyst and a physics resident in Medical Physics at SRCC. In addition to managing the clinical operation of the Medical Physics department they will be part of the SRCCRMP leadership team to shape and steer the program for continuation of providing safe and advanced radiation treatment to patients in the regions.

The successful candidate will also be part of the Medical Physics department at PM. They will have opportunities in participating in clinical activities innovative research educational activities and clinical development projects. The Department of Medical Physics at PM supports staff professional and academic growth by providing access to research and development opportunities related to topics in a set of focus areas. Topics include process automation data science MRguided external beam radiotherapy and brachytherapy dose accumulation adaptive radiotherapy radiation dosimetry proton therapy technology development functional imaging for treatment response assessment and optical techniques and biophotonics in conjunction with radiation.

The department of Medical Physics at PM is active in education and training of medical physicists through its CAMPEPaccredited residency program at the University of Toronto Department of Radiation Oncology. The department also maintains a strong relation with University of Torontos Department of Medical Biophysics through which it recently established a CAMPEPaccredited Ph.D. program providing robust access to topnotch graduate students. The successful candidate will be encouraged and supported to secure an academic appointment at the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Toronto.
