Under the direction of Management or designate the Senior Medical Laboratory Assistant (Senior MLA) performsvarious functions within the laboratory relating to the pre and post-analytical phases of testing. The Senior MLA isin a team lead role supporting the division/site with technical expertise, quality assurance, adherence to policyand practices and mentorship within the scope of employment of a Medical Laboratory Assistant. In collaborationwith the Laboratory Supervisor or Technical Specialist, the Senior MLA may assist with the oversight and/orimplementation of work processes, training and the redirection of resources to respond to fluctuations inoperational workload. The Senior MLA must be able to work independently, use good judgment, apply soundtroubleshooting skills and demonstrate excellent customer service. The Senior MLA must demonstrate acommitment to patient safety, quality improvement and sustainability while promoting a positive workenvironment. The Senior MLA works within a work team comprised predominantly of MLAs and will support theTechnical supervisor with scheduling and replacement of shifts. The Senior MLA performs audits and collectsdata.
