Role and Responsibilities

Reports to: Clinical Manager and Clinical Supervisor

  1. Responsible for selecting appropriate test methodologies for clinical use.
  2. Verify test procedures and establish laboratory test performance characteristics, including precision and accuracy.
  3. Ensure enrollment and participation in CMS-approved proficiency testing, testing samples according to CLIA requirements, reviewing PT reports, and implementing corrective actions when necessary.
  4. Establish and maintain a quality control program, ensuring performance standards are met throughout testing.
  5. Resolve technical problems, ensure remedial actions are taken, and verify proper functioning before reporting patient results.
  6. Identify training needs, provide in-service training, and evaluate staff competency regularly.
  7. Participate in QA/QI activities, proficiency testing, and continuing education.
  8. Assist in training, evaluation, validation, and implementation of new methodologies and instruments.
  9. Support regulatory readiness, participate in audits, and contribute to special projects.
  10. Perform routine laboratory duties, monitor reagents and supplies, and ensure safety and compliance.

Additional responsibilities include supervision roles, performing tests, troubleshooting, documentation, participating in software upgrades, and supporting laboratory operations as qualified.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Licenses and Certifications: ASCP certification or equivalent required.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 4 years in clinical hematology or core laboratory.
