Job summary

Canem Systems, a Bird Construction subsidiary, seeks a Senior Mechanical Estimator to lead complex budgets and cost estimates for mechanical construction across Canada. You will mentor staff, manage tender processes, and optimize costing strategies within a collaborative, safety‑driven culture.

You will leverage AutoCAD/REVIT and estimating software to develop accurate bids, mentor junior estimators, and contribute to project wins in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Ten years+ experience as a Mechanical Estimator.
• Hands-on mechanical construction project experience (10+ years).
• Senior Estimator background with leadership experience is a strong asset.
• Undergraduate degree or college diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent program or certification in mechanical trades.
• Eligible for PQS, CET or P. Eng designation or mechanical trade designation.
• Excellent engineering and technical knowledge of mechanical construction.
• Experience with AutoCAD/REVIT is an asset; Autobid/Accubid estimating software is an asset.
• Knowledge of mechanical, HVAC, or plumbing codes and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, engineers, and contractors; pursue opportunities and tenders.
• Prepare mechanical budgets and accurate cost estimates based on drawings and material lists.
• Coordinate pre-tender site tours and participate in site visits as required.
• Set up estimate data in estimation software and review tender information before submission.
• Analyze tender documents and obligations; prepare quotation letters with approvals.
• Maintain databases for estimating and change orders; update historical estimates.
• Provide training and support on estimating practices and software.
