Job summary

WSP in Canada is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Sudbury ON to lead multidisciplinary mining and heavy industrial projects with strong technical leadership. You will guide design from concept through detailed engineering and mentor engineers across teams.

This role requires a P.Eng. in Canada and 15+ years of experience, with field readiness and a focus on safe, high‑performing solutions. You will collaborate with process, structural, electrical and construction teams to deliver impact.

Qualifications

  • University Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related.
  • 15+ years of mechanical engineering experience in mining and heavy industrial projects.
  • Experience in flue gas, dust collection and ventilation ducting is an asset.
  • P.Eng. designation in Canada or eligibility.
  • Proven experience solving real-world engineering challenges from equipment specification to design and integration.
  • Willingness to work in the field or onsite and follow safety requirements.
  • Proficient with mechanical design and modeling tools and continuously grow your toolkit.

Your Impact
  • Lead mechanical engineering design packages from concept development through detailed engineering, ensuring technical excellence and alignment with project goals.
  • Develop mechanical systems, specifications, calculations, and deliverables that support safe, reliable, and high‑performing operations for mining, metals, heavy industrial clients.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical design with process, structural, electrical, controls, and construction requirements.
  • Review designs, drawings, and engineering documents to ensure quality, constructability, and adherence to industry codes and best practices.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to intermediate and junior engineers, supporting team growth and capability development.
  • Engage directly with clients, contractors, and internal partners to solve complex technical challenges and advance project delivery.
The Skills That Set You Apart
  • University Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related.
  • At least 15+years of mechanical engineering experience in mining and heavy industrial projects.
  • Experience in flue gas, dust collection and ventilation ducting an asset.
  • You hold (or are eligible for) a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada.
  • You bring proven experience solving real‑world engineering challenges, from equipment specification to system design and integration.
  • You’re comfortable working in the field or onsite as needed and adhere to all safety requirements.
  • You have working proficiency with mechanical design and modeling tools and continuously grow your technical toolkit.
  • You care about doing work that matters—to clients, communities, and the world around you.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $122,900 – $162,800

MB & ON: $112,100 – $154,400

NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $111,000 – $147,400
