Job summary

WSP in Sudbury, Ontario is seeking a Mechanical Designer to contribute to heavy industrial and mining projects. You will create 3D models, layout general arrangements, and perform design calculations, collaborating with multiple disciplines to deliver safe, efficient solutions.

The role requires 8+ years of mechanical design experience, consulting background, and proficiency with AVEVA E3D, Plant3D, Revit, and related tools. Fluency in English is essential; French is an asset.

Qualifications

• Prepare process flow diagrams and design calculations.
• Develop design briefs and trade-off studies; check vendor documentation.
• Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure timely, accurate data flow.

You’ll design and collaborate across teams to deliver solutions that help communities and industries thrive. This position will play a key role in the design and optimization of the layout design of heavy industrial projects across the subsector.

This position will be located in our Sudbury, Ontario office.

Your Impact

In this role, you will:

• Prepare 3D models and layout general arrangements for existing plant upgrades and new facilities;
• Prepare process flow diagrams;
• Prepare design calculations and design briefs;
• Prepare trade-off studies and reports;
• Assist in the checking of Vendor documentation;
• Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure a timely and accurate flow of design information, while ensuring departmental and client standards are maintained;
• Provide input to departmental support tasks such as the maintenance and revision of equipment libraries, department standards and procedures.

• College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent;
• 8+ years experience in mechanical engineering design specifically with experience in layout design for heavy industrial and/or mining projects;
• Strong understanding of mechanical equipment, and pipinginstallation requirements in the field;
• Must have consulting experience;
• Proven experience withAVEVA E3D,Plant3D, Revit, Microstation, SolidEdge and SmartPlant;
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal);
• French language skills (written and verbal) an asset;
• Strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and a desire to perform design engineering;
• Strong critical thinking skills and an ability to problem solve effectively;
• Ability to work well in a team but also as an individual contributor.

Compensation:

• BC, AB, SK, NWT & NU: $77,400 – $102,500
• MB & ON: $70,600 – $97,200
• Atlantic Provinces & QC: $69,900 – $92,900
