Job summary

IREN is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own end-to-end liquid-cooled mechanical systems across design, construction, commissioning and operations at Canadian sites. You will manage pumps, piping, heat exchangers, chillers and controls, bringing experience from industrial processes into data-center cooling challenges.

Required 7+ years in fluid-moving systems, FE/PD knowledge, and strong CFD/thermal analysis skills. Hybrid work in Canada with travel to BC sites and beyond is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
• P.Eng or eligibility for registration with EGBC preferred.
• 7+ years designing, building, commissioning or operating fluid-moving mechanical systems: pumps, piping, chillers, compressors, heat exchangers.
• Data center or mission critical experience preferred; liquid cooling exposure is a strong asset.
• Hands-on sizing of pumps, piping, heat exchangers and chilled water plant; hydraulic/thermal calculations.
• Working knowledge of P&IDs and plant design tools (AutoCAD, Revit).
• Ability to apply CFD and thermal analysis results to design decisions.
• Knowledge of ASHRAE/ASME/CSA/BC codes; familiarity with BMS/DCIM platforms is an asset.
• Senior contributor capable of mentoring and potentially leading a mechanical team.
• Excellent verbal and written communication across audiences.
• Willing to travel to Prince George and other IREN sites in BC and Alberta in the future.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the owner's mechanical SME for cooling plants across design, construction, commissioning and operations.
• Review and validate specifications, calculations, drawings and other deliverables from consultants and equipment vendors.
• Lead or support construction, installation and commissioning activities for mechanical systems.
• Monitor performance to maintain reliability and implement energy-efficient improvements.
• Collaborate with architects, electrical engineers and stakeholders to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Contribute to schedules, budgets and resourcing plans; coordinate with site teams and partners.
• Develop technical documentation to support design through operations.
• Maintain records for cooling-system documentation and site integration.
• Coach staff on cooling, mechanical and piping matters.
• Perform analyses (calculations, simulations, CFD, thermal) to optimize cooling and airflow.
