We are seeking a talented Senior Mechanical Engineer to become part of our Hydropower and Dams team in our Niagara Falls office. This position focuses on supporting and executing hydro and dam-related projects, ensuring technical excellence within the existing team. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing engineering services to hydropower and dam owners in Ontario, across Canada, and globally.

In the Niagara Falls office, you will have the opportunity to be involved in some of the most exciting hydropower and dam projects worldwide. You will be part of a Hydropower team that includes industry-respected experts, and you can enjoy the vibrant local culture, including theatre, music festivals, concerts, and fine dining. Niagara Falls is conveniently located near Ontario’s wine country and the Toronto/Mississauga area, with easy access to New York State.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Perform system analyses, establish user requirements, analyze system functional and performance requirements, define design criteria, and provide input to the design team on layouts and designs.
  • Lead and manage engineering commitments in accordance with scope, schedule, budget, and procedures to ensure successful project completion.
  • Interface with other engineering disciplines involved in projects, as required.
  • Take ownership of high-level technical deliverables.
  • Develop preliminary and detailed designs, oversee and guide the preparation of mechanical drawings and specifications for construction.
  • Participate in technical design reviews and calculation checks.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, technical guidance, and quality assurance to other engineers to ensure technical adequacy.
  • Prepare technical specifications based on input from other disciplines.
  • Manage and review engineering work packages, including project budgets and schedules.
  • Review or approve technical deliverables such as equipment designs, specifications, data sheets, and calculations.
  • Contribute to technical memos and reports within areas of expertise.
  • Provide input to engineering, operating, and capital cost estimates.
  • Prepare, review, or approve project standard specifications and design criteria.
  • Contribute to 3D models and 2D mechanical drawings.
  • Participate in and contribute to design reviews.
  • Assist in the commissioning of systems on-site as required.
  • Follow company standard quality procedures.
  • Prepare or contribute to proposals in the area of expertise.

You bring to the role:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is an asset.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario or other Canadian Province (candidates with strong international experience and eligibility for P.Eng. designation in Canada will be considered).
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience, preferably with rotating equipment.
  • Experience working on hydropower projects (dams and gates) is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Computer Design Tools (Mathcad, AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks) is an asset.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs.
  • Knowledge of Canadian and provincial codes and standards.
  • Strong client focus and results-driven mindset, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines.
  • Experience leading small and large mechanical teams in multidisciplinary projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to delegate tasks and supervise engineers and designers effectively.
  • Enthusiasm for working on exciting projects and developing innovative solutions.
