We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer/Designer to join a dynamic and collaborative team in Calgary. This is an opportunity to work on exciting and technically challenging projects across a range of building types, including mixed-use developments, multi-family residential, commercial, and institutional facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead HVAC and plumbing system design from schematic design through to construction documents.
  • Mentor and supervise intermediate engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and support.
  • Coordinate with architectural, structural, civil, and electrical teams to ensure seamless interdisciplinary integration.
  • Review and approve internal design deliverables, ensuring quality and code compliance.
  • Attend design and coordination meetings; conduct on-site reviews during construction.
  • Monitor and manage project schedules, budgets, and manpower utilization in collaboration with project managers.
  • Communicate additional service requirements and design scope changes proactively.
  • Contribute hands-on support and leadership across all stages of the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Alberta.
  • 5–10 years of experience in HVAC and plumbing system design for buildings.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Word.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes and mechanical system design principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate with multiple disciplines and lead detailed design work.
  • Comfortable mentoring junior staff and reviewing the work of others.

Preferred Assets

  • Experience with Carrier HAP, clash detection tools, and writing or reviewing specifications.
  • Familiarity with tracking project costs vs. budgets and estimating design/drafting hours.
  • Knowledge of WIP reporting and project financial tracking.
