Job summary

Tetra Tech Buildings Group is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer for a permanent, full-time position in Winnipeg. The candidate will design HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial and industrial facilities, create P&IDs, and supervise project delivery.

You will mentor junior staff, manage multi-disciplinary teams, and liaise with clients across Canada. A P.Eng or eligible status and 10+ years of design experience are required, with willingness to travel for site work.

Qualifications

• University degree in mechanical engineering required.
• Professional Engineer in Manitoba or eligible for registration is expected.
• Minimum 10 years of design experience in mechanical engineering.
• Prior consulting engineering experience is essential.
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently with strong organizational skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office; familiarity with engineering design software.
• Excellent communication and presentation abilities; capable of client interaction.
• Eligible for Federal Government Security Clearance; valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Perform investigations, studies, design and prepare specs for permit and construction.
• Design mechanical HVAC and plumbing for commercial/industrial facilities.
• Read and apply relevant codes and standards.
• Prepare drawings, schematics, reports and technical bid packages.
• Develop P&ID diagrams and related documentation.
• Ensure on-time project delivery with project team collaboration.
• Assign work to junior staff and provide mentorship and reviews.
• Lead projects and multi-disciplinary teams; liaise with clients and support business development.
• Travel for site inspections and monitoring as needed.

The successful candidate will work as part of an engineering consulting team for the design, development and implementation of electrical systems required for commercial and industrial facilities. This position is a permanent full-time role and will be based in the Winnipeg office and will include work with clients throughout Canada.

Your Role:

• Complete various engineering assignments, including investigations, studies, design and specifications for permit and construction, cost estimation, and supervision of construction and commissioning
• Design mechanical HVAC, Plumbing, for commercial, industrial, public and private facilities
• Read and understand pertinent codes and standards
• Prepare drawings, schematics, specifications, reports, proposals, and technical bid packages for both tendering and construction phase as required
• Prepare Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
• Work with project team to ensure on-time project completion
• Assign and outline work to assigned support staff
• Provide leadership and technical expertise, mentor junior staff
• Manage projects and multi-disciplinary teams, and liaison with clients, preparing proposals and assisting with business development
• Assign and outline work to junior staff, advise on technical problems and reviews work for technical accuracy and adequacy.
• Perform field inspection, condition assessment, and monitoring of construction. May require travel on a limited basis

Qualifications:

• University Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer in Manitoba, or eligible for registration.
• Min 10 years of design experience
• Previous Consulting Engineering experience is critical
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
• Experienced in the use of MS Office suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Experience with typical mechanical design software
• Effective communication, organization and presentation skills
• Eligible for Federal Government Security Clearance
• Experience providing services to the City of Winnipeg and/or other municipalities would be an asset
• Valid driver's license
