Job summary

Tetra Tech Buildings Group in Winnipeg is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to join our consulting team. The role focuses on design, development, and implementation of electrical systems for commercial and industrial facilities, with opportunities to work across Canada.

The position is permanent, full-time, based in Winnipeg, with travel to client sites as needed. You will lead multi-disciplinary projects, mentor staff, and contribute to business development in a collaborative, hybrid

Qualifications

• University degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer credential in Manitoba or eligible for registration.
• Minimum 10 years of design experience.
• Experience in consulting engineering.
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience with typical mechanical design software.
• Strong communication, organization and presentation skills.
• Eligible for Federal Government Security Clearance.
• Experience serving the City of Winnipeg or other municipalities is an asset.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Complete engineering assignments: investigations, studies, design and specs for permit/construction.
• Design mechanical HVAC and Plumbing for facilities.
• Read and apply relevant codes and standards.
• Prepare drawings, schematics, specs, reports, proposals, and bid packages.
• Prepare P&ID diagrams.
• Collaborate with project team for on-time completion.
• Assign and coordinate work to junior staff.
• Provide leadership and mentor junior staff.
• Manage projects and liaise with clients, assist with proposals.
• Perform field inspections and monitoring; travel may be required.

The successful candidate will work as part of an engineering consulting team for the design, development and implementation of electrical systems required for commercial and industrial facilities. This position is a permanent full-time role and will be based in the Winnipeg office and will include work with clients throughout Canada.

Your Role

• Complete various engineering assignments, including investigations, studies, design and specifications for permit and construction, cost estimation, and supervision of construction and commissioning
• Design mechanical HVAC, Plumbing, for commercial, industrial, public and private facilities
• Read and understand pertinent codes and standards
• Prepare drawings, schematics, specifications, reports, proposals, and technical bid packages for both tendering and construction phase as required
• Prepare Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
• Work with project team to ensure on-time project completion
• Assign and outline work to assigned support staff
• Provide leadership and technical expertise, mentor junior staff
• Manage projects and multi-disciplinary teams, and liaison with clients, preparing proposals and assisting with business development
• Assign and outline work to junior staff, advise on technical problems and reviews work for technical accuracy and adequacy.
• Perform field inspection, condition assessment, and monitoring of construction. May require travel on a limited basis

Qualifications

• University Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer in Manitoba, or eligible for registration.
• Min 10 years of design experience
• Previous Consulting Engineering experience is critical
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
• Experienced in the use of MS Office suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Experience with typical mechanical design software
• Effective communication, organization and presentation skills
• Eligible for Federal Government Security Clearance
• Experience providing services to the City of Winnipeg and/or other municipalities would be an asset
• Valid driver’s license
