Job summary

KGS Group is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead and support a range of mechanical engineering projects, from small tasks to complex multi-disciplinary initiatives. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university (post-graduate degree asset).
• Minimum eight years of mechanical engineering experience with demonstrated project management related to budget tracking, schedule management and project delivery.
• Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Manitoba or other provinces (asset).
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Consulting experience and hydroelectric industry experience are strong assets.
• Experience with site inspections, condition assessments, design development and construction support services.

Responsibilities

• Lead design of modifications to existing mechanical systems and develop new hydroelectric facilities.
• Act as Owner’s Engineer for large water infrastructure projects across planning, design, procurement, construction and commissioning phases.

The Role

In this role, you will lead and support a range of mechanical engineering projects, from small-scale tasks to complex, multi-disciplinary initiatives. You will develop effective design solutions while collaborating across disciplines. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design of modifications to existing balance-of-plant mechanical systems, as well as the development of new mechanical systems for water control structures and hydroelectric generating stations, including participation in the planning and design of new hydroelectric facilities
• Act as the Owner’s Engineer on large-scale water infrastructure and hydroelectric projects, providing technical oversight throughout project planning, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases
• Apply specialized mechanical engineering expertise while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary project teams. Experience related to dam safety assessments and programs is considered a strong asset
• Prepare, review, and approve engineering reports, technical specifications, design calculations, studies, and other project documentation
• Coordinate with engineers, technologists, and specialists from multiple disciplines to successfully deliver projects while maintaining quality standards, schedules, and budgets
• Provide technical leadership and senior-level review of engineering deliverables, offering guidance, mentorship, and constructive feedback to junior and intermediate staff
• Support business development initiatives by developing and maintaining client relationships, identifying opportunities with new and existing clients, and contributing to proposals and project pursuits
• Manage project scope, resources, schedules, and budgets while ensuring client expectations and project objectives are achieved
• Travel to project sites as required to support inspections, client meetings, condition assessments, construction activities, and commissioning; travel is generally limited but may vary based on project and client requirements

About You

To fill the role, we’re looking for an applicant to bring forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences.

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university; a post-graduate degree is considered an asset
• Minimum of eight years of mechanical engineering experience, including demonstrated project management experience related to budget tracking, schedule management, and project delivery
• Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Manitoba Registration, or eligibility for registration, in other Canadian provinces is considered an asset
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Previous consulting experience and experience within the hydroelectric industry are considered strong assets
• Demonstrated experience conducting site inspections, condition assessments, design development, and construction support services
• Experience with one or more of the following systems and equipment is preferred: cranes and hoists, water control gates, turbines, generators, ventilation/HVAC systems, compressed air systems, drainage systems, oil/water separators, and fire protection systems in generating stations. Candidates with other relevant mechanical design experience will also be considered
• Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and provide senior technical review of designs, calculations reports, and other engineering deliverables, offering guidance and direction to project team members
• Ability to review, comment on, and approve engineering designs and technical reports while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required
• Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain required security clearances
