Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Windsor, ON to lead design and execution of civic, industrial, healthcare, commercial and educational projects.

You will mentor junior staff, coordinate with offices and disciplines, and ensure client satisfaction while delivering high-quality mechanical systems and technical documentation.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of building-related mechanical systems and codes.
• Experience developing proposals including pricing and scope.
• Proven project management skills and ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English; French an asset.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate mechanical drawings and specifications; manage projects within multidisciplinary teams.
• Design HVAC, Hydronics, Plumbing, Fuels, Controls, Fire Protection systems for buildings.
• Prepare design calculations, contract drawings, schedules, and sketches from concept to construction.
• Write technical reports, specifications, and bidding documents.
• Provide mentorship to junior engineers and technologists; review REVIT MEP and AutoCAD outputs.
• Develop client relationships and support business development activities.
• Define scope and fee for proposed engineering services; support sales efforts.

Your Opportunity

Anopportunity exists Windsor, ONfor a highly motivatedSenior Mechanical Engineerto join our multidisciplinary team. In this role you will be responsible for the design and execution of projects ranging in size and complexity, with a focus on civic, industrial, healthcare, commercial and educational projects. The successful candidate will also be responsible for providing technical mentorship to junior and intermediate mechanical staff, developing and maintaining new and existing clients, coordinating skillsets with other offices and disciplines, and satisfying customer requirements.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Coordinating and being responsible for mechanical engineering drawings and specifications, Project Managing and/or working within multidisciplinary project teams.
• Designing building-related mechanical systems including HVAC, Hydronics, Plumbing, Fuels, Controls, and Fire Protection systems using applicable codes, standards, and reference materials. Focus will be on concept design, while working with the buildings mechanical team to develop full design packages.
• Preparing detailed engineering design calculations.
• Preparing contract drawings, schematics, schedules, details, and sketches from conceptual design through to construction.
• Writing reports analyzing mechanical problems and providing engineering solutions and recommendations.
• Preparing Technical Specifications and documents for bidding and construction.
• Providing strong technical mentorship to junior and intermediate mechanical engineers and technologists, including markups for REVIT MEP and AutoCAD drawings, instruction in design calculations, interpretation of codes, and completing peer reviews of documents developed by the mechanical team.
• Nurturing and maintaining strong client relationships in and for execution of projects, and as appropriate participate in marketing/business development.
• Determining the scope and fee for proposed engineering services.
• Supporting specific sales, proposal, and project efforts.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Strong knowledge of building-related mechanical systems with the following mechanical design scope considered an asset:
  • Water/wastewater facilities.
  • Industrial ventilation systems is considered an asset.
  • Fire suppression systems considered an asset.
  • Fuel storage and distribution systems.
  • Process piping systems.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit MEP software.
• Demonstrated capability to develop proposals for new work, including pricing and constraining the pursuit scope.
• Good organization, coordination, and project management skills to maintain project schedules and budgets.
• Excellent knowledge of national and provincial building codes and standards.
• Demonstrated technical writing skills; capable of writing reports, proposals, letters, and technical specifications.
• Familiar with consulting contract terminology.
• Good verbal communication and soft skills.
• Strong English verbal and writing skills are required. French language skills are considered an asset.
• Eligible to apply for and receive PSPC Secret Clearance is required. Existing PSPC Secret or Reliability Clearance status is considered an asset.
• Current Driver's license is required.
• Ability to travel within Canada may be required.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in the province of Ontario. License to practice engineering in Quebec is considered an asset.
• Minimum of 10 years of consulting engineering experience in the buildings industry, working with municipal, provincial, federal, industrial, healthcare, commercial and educational clients.
