Job description

AECOM Buildings Place is seeking a motivated and skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to help lead buildings projects, including commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities such as Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and Sewage Lift Stations. This position can be based out of the Ottawa office with opportunities for hybrid work. Some travel to nearby cities may be required. This role offers opportunities for career growth.

AECOM Buildings Places Canada (BP Canada) is a vibrant and growing fully integrated team spanning architecture, all building engineering disciplines, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design, economics, and asset management for design and infrastructure projects. Project assignments may include, but are not limited to, municipal, commercial, institutional projects, justice, education, and government sectors.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team in the preparation of engineering designs related to HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities such as Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and Sewage Lift Stations.
  • Direct and manage delivery teams.
  • Develop study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality, cost-effective work by others.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  • Develop construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.
  • Utilize expertise in all steps of completing discipline components of PS&E packages.
  • Perform quality control reviews of design calculations or drawings.
  • Prepare technical specification sections.
  • Contribute to the development of engineering budgets and schedules to meet project requirements.

Qualifications: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • Six (6) years of experience or demonstrated equivalency in education and experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) designation in Ontario in good standing.
  • Ability to obtain secret-level security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, including leadership in design delivery.
  • Experience in IPD (Integrated Project Delivery).
  • Experience in specifying HVAC Controls / BMS is preferred.
  • Past team leadership experience is an asset.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.
  • Experience with NBC, ABC, NPC, SMACNA, ASHRAE codes and standards.
  • Proficiency with HAP, AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with Building Energy Modeling software platforms (IES, eQuest, EnergyPlus, HOT2000, RETScreen) is an asset.
  • Experience with sustainability standards (LEED, Net Zero, Passive House, Envision) is an asset.
  • Plumbing and fire protection design experience.
  • Familiarity with ISO quality management systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
