SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER (MILL)
Reporting to the Chief Mechanical Engineer, the Senior Mechanical Engineer's role is to use their knowledge to develop, implement and improve the maintenance program. They are also responsible for developing strategies to improve plant reliability and troubleshooting recurring mechanical issues to find the root cause and the solution to it. They must technically support the various operation, engineering and maintenance teams in order to achieve production, availability, cost and health and safety targets.
Key Responsibilities
Area 1:
- Develop, implement and ensure compliance with the maintenance program.
- Originates and develops analysis methods to determine reliability of components, equipment and processes.
- Acquires and analyzes data. Prepares diagrams, charts, drawings, calculations and reports to define reliability problems and make recommendations for improvements.
- Conducts an analysis of reliability problems and investigates to determine the required reliability approach for the particular situation, with consideration given to the cost limitations for equipment uptime/downtime, repair/replacement costs and weight, size and availability of materials/equipment.
- Review maintenance plan modifications request (frequency, nature of the task, PM/PdM improvement)
- Develop standards jobs, methods and procedures for maintenance and operation of mechanical equipment.
- Investigate and analyze the root causes of recurring failures (RCA) and propose solutions to eliminate problems.
- Use the CMMS (Oracle eAM) to extract data to work on the bad actors.
- Supervise and inspect the installation, modification and commissioning of mechanical systems.
- Develop maintenance standards, schedules and programs and provide guidance to industrial maintenance crews.
- Investigate mechanical failures or unexpected maintenance problems.
- Prepare contract documents and evaluate tenders for industrial maintenance.
Area 2:
- Manage projects and modifications related to mechanical engineering.
- Analyze management of change requests from Operation to understand the plus-value based on facts.
- Lead the management of change process from the request to the final implementation.
- Supervise and inspect the installation and operation of new modifications.
- Design, modify and validate mechanical engineering drawings and plans.
- Coordinate the realization of projects with the various departments and contractors.
- Prepare feasibility studies, material cost and timing estimates, reports and design specifications.
- Ensure the quality and revision of drawings and technical documentation of mechanical equipment in the system.
- Ensure compliance with and application of mechanical standards, laws and codes.
- Provide expert advice on site on mechanical engineering procedures and practices related to mechanical maintenance.
Area 3:
- Technically support the operation, engineering and maintenance teams.
- Conduct analysis of maintainability problems and investigates to determine the outage required for the particular situation, with consideration given to cost limitations for equipment uptime/downtime, repair/replacement costs and weight, size and availability of materials/equipment.
- Determine cost advantages of alternatives and develop action plans that comply with demands for timely repair of processes/equipment.
- Participate in various maintenance projects and business improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical expertise, support and training to the junior engineers.
- Act as a technical advisor for a variety of internal and external requests.
- Write reports and prepare technical documents to support decision-making.
- Develop and review procedures and training for equipment repair.
Area 4:
- Work collaboratively with others to deliver innovative continuous improvement opportunities.
- Seek and implement best-in-class practices.
- Propose new methods to meet challenges of mechanical engineering.
- Identify training and development opportunities for the team.
- Keep abreast of trends in engineering and impart to Cote Gold.
- Provide new approaches, methods or policies to optimize performance and ensure compliance with industry regulations and organizational standards.
- Continuously seek to improve technical knowledge and skills.
- Conduct research and benchmarking to support decision-making and improve mechanical processes, technologies and methodologies used for the operation.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves
- Post-secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.
- Registration (or eligibility to register) as an Engineer in Ontario (PEO).
Work experience - Nature & Length
- A minimum of 8 years of related work experience.
- Previous experience in open pit mining or mineral processing (specifically gold processing) is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of reliability best practices.
- Proficiency in computer applications and maintenance software.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to work independently and in team settings.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Good observational and analytical skills.
- Very organized individual.
- Strategic thinker with high degree of rigor.
- Effective change agent and team player.
