Job description

Halyard is a highly skilled multidisciplinary engineering company offering services including site studies, design, procurement, cost control, program management, implementation, and commissioning, primarily in the mining and utilities sectors.

The Designer plays an important role in the Toronto office. Reporting to the Design Office Manager, this position requires versatility, ranging from flow sheet and P&ID development to 3D detailing and layouts, from conceptual designs to final designs throughout the project lifecycle. The role involves working within tight deadlines, with some travel and site time as required by the project.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work collaboratively in small design teams alongside multi-discipline engineers and project managers.
• Create and manage 3D CAD models, 2D CAD drawings, bills of materials, piping isometrics, stress analysis, and equipment layouts and sizing.
• Manage small-scale projects independently.
• Learn and develop skills across disciplines, staying updated with technological advances.
• Ensure drawings are accurate, maintained, and controlled according to office procedures.
• Follow specifications and external design standards.
• Participate in design and drawing reviews, updating drawings based on feedback.
• Track work hours and stay within project budgets.
• Manage the execution timeline of assigned tasks and contribute to schedule updates.
• Adhere to internal policies, standards, and procedures for the engineering department.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

• Technical Diploma or Engineering Degree.
• Minimum 5 years of design/drafting experience.
• Strong background in 3D design; experience with AutoCAD, Plant3D, Inventor, Revit is an asset.
• Practical site experience, including construction, commissioning, and back drafting, is highly desirable.
• Experience in laying out process plants and industrial facilities, especially mineral processing plants, with an emphasis on optimal piping routing.
• Understanding of multidisciplinary engineering activities such as civil works, structural steel, plate work, conveyors, feeders, stockpiling, mills, process equipment, dewatering equipment, and piping/cable routing.
• Familiarity with process design tools like PFDs, P&IDs, and BFDs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
