Job summary

JBS Equipment in Mission, BC is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer/Engineer to lead new product development, designing innovative agricultural and mobile equipment from the ground up. You will create detailed specs, drawings, BOMs, and drive concept through production.

The role requires 7+ years in complex mechanical design, strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, Vault), GD&T, and a track record in NPD.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience designing and developing complex mechanical products.
• Strong experience in new product development for agricultural, mobile, heavy equipment, industrial machinery, or related industries.
• Degree or diploma in mechanical engineering or engineering technology.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, Vault).
• Experience with production-ready drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
• Knowledge of GD&T and welding standards.

Responsibilities

We are looking to add a Senior Mechanical Designer/Engineer to the team whose focus will be on new product development, developing from bottom-up.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design and development of innovative new products from the bottom-up, specifically agricultural and mobile equipment.
• Conducting thorough research and analysis to evaluate feasibility, performance, and cost-effectiveness of design concepts.
• Creating detailed design documentation, including technical specifications, drawings, and test plans, to facilitate smooth implementation in production.
• Configure products for sales orders and produce associated drawings and Bill of Materials (BOMs).
• Collaboration with cross-functional teams during product development and ensuring adherence to product specifications and project timelines.
• Review engineering changes and process through proper change management (ECR’s, ECO’s, ECN’s)
• Understand and support in the development of company design standards and procedures.
• Peer review models, drawings and BOMs.
• Provide technical advice and guide to junior engineers.
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skill to identify and solve design issues, ensuring optimal functionality and performance of products with three-dimensional conceptual ability.
• Continuous learning and keeping up-to-date with industry trends and technological advancements to contribute towards enhancing design practices and processes.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum 7 years of experience on designing and developing complex mechanical products.
• Strong experience in new product development, preferably in agricultural, mobile, heavy equipment, industrial machinery, or related industries.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD softwares such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, and Vault.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including welding, fabrication, machining, and assembly.
• Experience creating production-ready drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
• Knowledge of GD&T and welding standards.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Effective communicator throughout multiple levels of an organization (Customers, Sales, Purchasing, etc.).
• Experienced with presenting designs to stakeholders.
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is preferred.
• Registered as a P.Eng or ASCT or equivalent professional designation is preferred.
