Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Building Services Consultancy, Southampton Area (Hybrid Working), Full-Time, Competitive Salary + Benefits + Bonus

About the Role

A forward-thinking building services consultancy based in Fareham is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services projects across sectors such as commercial, residential, education, and healthcare. You will be responsible for managing mechanical design teams, collaborating with clients and multidisciplinary teams, and driving innovative, sustainable solutions from concept through to completion.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead the mechanical design and coordination of building services systems including HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and domestic water services.
  2. Prepare and review detailed design calculations, specifications, technical reports, and drawings.
  3. Manage project deliverables, timelines, and client communications effectively.
  4. Mentor and support junior and intermediate engineers, encouraging technical growth.
  5. Collaborate closely with electrical, sustainability, and architectural teams to deliver fully integrated MEP designs.
  6. Ensure compliance with UK building regulations, CIBSE guides, and relevant sustainability standards.
  7. Attend and contribute to client meetings, design reviews, and project workshops.
  8. Support business development and continuous improvement initiatives.
Candidate Requirements
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng, or equivalent).
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership (IMechE, CIBSE, or similar).
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, heating, ventilation, and controls design.
  • Proficient in mechanical design software such as Hevacomp, IES, Revit, AutoCAD or similar.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead design teams.
