Job summary

Velocity Machining & Welding seeks a Senior Mechanical & Machining Technician to operate our new 5-axis universal CNC mill/turn centre and manage palletized production systems.

You will support two DMG DMC 65 FD machines with 6 and 9 station pallet pools, drive efficiency, and lead continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced shop environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in advanced CNC programming and machining, including 5-axis mill/turn.
• Post-secondary technical certification in machining or equivalent.
• Experience in manufacturing, automation, or related environments.
• Strong CAD/CAM skills and GD&T knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage pallet pool operations to maximize machine utilization.
• Schedule and organize work for efficient production flow and uptime.
• Create and refine 5-axis mill/turn programs.
• Set up machines with tools, workholding, offsets, and verifications.
• Optimize processes to reduce cycle times and extend tool life.
• Program in-process inspection and document results.
• Troubleshoot machining/automation issues to minimize downtime.
• Develop application-specific solutions with the team.

Senior Mechanical and Machining Technician

Our team is growing, and we are seeking a Senior Mechanical & Machining Technician to operate our newest 5 axis universal, CNC mill/turn machining centre.

About the Role

As Senior Mechanical & Machining Technician, you'll work with advanced CNC 5-axis mill/turn technology and manage palletized production systems to ensure smooth workflow, efficient unattended operation, and continuous improvement. Specifically, you'll support the operation of two DMG DMC 65 FD universal machining centres with 6 and 9 station pallet pools.

Key responsibilities include:

• Coordinate and manage pallet pool operations to maximize machine utilization and unattended production.
• Schedule and organize work to ensure efficient production flow and machine uptime.
• Create and refine 5 axis mill/turn programs.
• Set up and prepare machines by choosing and loading tools, determining workholding solutions, setting offsets, and performing verifications.
• Optimize the machining process by finding ways to reduce cycle times, improve finishes, and extend tool life.
• Program in-process inspection and ensure all inspection documentation is complete and managed correctly.
• Troubleshoot machining and automation issues quickly to minimize downtime and maintain production continuity.
• Develop application specific solutions in collaboration with other staff members to solve complex machining challenges.

Qualifications

We are interested in candidates who possess a combination of technical, mechanical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Qualifications include:

• Post-secondary training or a technical certification as a Machinist, Mechanical Engineering Technologist, or a related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in advanced CNC programming and machining experience, including 5-axis mill/turn machining.
• Experience in manufacturing, machining, automation, industrial production, or related technical environments.
• Strong CAD/CAM skills, advanced knowledge of GD&T, inspection tools, and machining processes.
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in time management, organization, and critical thinking.
