We are seeking a Senior Electrical and Mechanical Engineer - R&D with over 10 years of proven experience in global HVAC, air solutions, air dynamics systems, and product research and development. This role is ideal for an accomplished engineer with a multidisciplinary background in mechanical, electrical, and product development engineering, who excels in leading cross-functional teams through concept, design, prototyping, and certification.

Location: Head Office - Mississauga.

Compensation and Benefits: Rosenberg Fans Canada Ltd. offers a competitive compensation package, including an annual gross salary starting at $85,000 (dependent on qualifications and experience) and a competitive employer-matched retirement savings program. Employment Type: Full-time 40 hours/week.

Placement date: Hiring will conclude once the ideal candidate has been selected.

The successful candidate will lead advanced product development initiatives with a strong focus on energy efficiency, compliance with local and international standards, and innovation in air systems technologies. The role also involves financial oversight, risk analysis management, and collaboration with global teams to deliver high-performing, certified products to the US and Canadian markets. This position also requires a strong ability to plan, organize, and manage department activities, including technical documentation, workflows, and process improvements.

Main Duties Include

  • Lead the design, development, and validation of HVAC and air moving solutions, including both electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Drive research and development initiatives in air dynamics and advanced air solutions for Canadian and US markets.
  • Establish and organize a lab dedicated to research and development, including the planning and execution of the lab setup, equipment selection, and ensuring alignment with R&D objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with the home company to integrate cross-functional expertise and ensure seamless knowledge transfer and resource sharing for R&D initiatives.
  • Manage the creation, review, and approval of detailed engineering drawings, fabrication standards, and product specifications.
  • Ensure products meet performance standards.
  • Develop and execute product testing protocols for functionality, performance, safety, and durability.
  • Oversee prototype development and the transition of designs into production, including tooling, BOMs, and cost analysis.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a cross-disciplinary R&D engineering team.
  • Perform risk analysis and design reviews to identify and mitigate technical and regulatory challenges early in the development process.
  • Interface with regulatory bodies and testing agencies to obtain necessary certifications and approvals for new products.
  • Manage project budgets, cost estimates, and resource allocation with a focus on innovation and ROI.
  • Plan and organize departmental activities, including setting priorities, assigning tasks, tracking milestones, and overseeing workflow efficiency.
  • Maintain and ensure accurate, up-to-date engineering documentation, including design files, test reports, regulatory submissions, and product data.
  • Collaborate with supply chain and manufacturing teams to ensure products are scalable, manufacturable, and meet quality targets.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, engineering documentation, and product roadmaps to stakeholders and executive teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering roles with a focus on HVAC systems, air dynamics, and electromechanical product design.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of energy-efficient technologies, smart HVAC controls, and sustainability-focused design practices.
  • Expertise in engineering standards, including CEC, CSA, CEC, NBC, NECB, UL, NEC, ISO (e.g., ISO 9001), ETL, TUV, and related safety and certification requirements.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent) and FEA/thermal analysis tools.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication techniques, manufacturing processes, and product lifecycle management.
  • Experience managing certification processes for North American and global markets.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage technical teams and departmental operations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration, reporting, and technical documentation.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects from concept through commercialization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng., PE) designation or eligibility.
  • Project Management Certification, such as CAPM or PMP.
  • Lean Sigma and Quality Management Training.
  • Background in financial oversight of engineering projects and R&D budgets.
  • Experience with ISO Standards, depending on product type or industry vertical.
  • Awareness of Canadian environmental regulations and standards.
