Job summary

Johnson Controls – Silent-Aire is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to lead assembly line design, process optimization, and continuous improvement across data-center manufacturing. You will partner with production, engineering, safety, quality, and CI teams to elevate line performance and drive ROI.

You will support procurement documentation, ECRs, and standard work while mentoring teams and ensuring alignment with Alberta/Canadian safety standards.

Qualifications

  • We require 6+ years in Manufacturing Engineering with focus on assembly or operations support.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and lean concepts.
  • Experience with process development, debugging, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize assembly lines and processes, including line balancing and standard work.
  • Prepare production setups, BOMs, and change-management documentation (ECRs).
  • Collaborate with safety, quality, and CI teams to improve line performance.
  • Lead line changes, new line installations, and project planning with risk assessment.
  • Drive data-driven quality improvements and monitor KPIs (OEE, cycle time).
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and cross-functional handover.

What You Do

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer who can support assembly and manufacturing operations with strong process thinking, problem-solving, and project execution. You will work with production, engineering, safety, quality, and CI teams to optimize processes, equipment, layouts, and line performance to meet production demands and quality standards. Automation experience is valued and can be brought to bear on projects and improvements where applicable.

How You Will Do It
  • Design and optimize assembly lines and manufacturing processes, including line layouts, line balancing, takt times, cell design, standard work, and documentation.
  • Prepare production setups including BOMs, fabrication parts, consumables, task lists, and subassemblies; manage procurement-related documentation and change management (ECRs).
  • Ensure compliance with Alberta and Canadian Occupational Health and Safety guidelines; contribute to JHSA meetings and incident investigations; support safety feature implementation and guarding design.
  • Collaborate with safety and structural engineering teams to address risk, guarding, and equipment safety in line with applicable standards.
  • Act as a liaison between engineering and production; ensure effective knowledge transfer and documentation handover to operations and maintenance.
  • Lead project planning and execution for line changes or new line installations, including safety considerations, scheduling, and drawing distribution.
  • Oversee assembly line layouts, standard work, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) related to manufacturing installations; ensure timely reviews and implementation.
  • Partner with Quality (QC), Production, and EHS to implement standard work procedures, process validations. drive data-driven quality improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams on product feasibility, design calculations, ROI analysis, and scaling of improvements.
  • Lead major initiatives including factory tests, prototype testing, and pilot runs; document lessons learned and scale to production.
  • Manage procurement, pricing, and documentation accuracy during production, coordinate with planning for time trials and production scheduling.
  • Ensure compliance with RFPs, engineering specifications, and contracting procedures.
  • Analyze data to identify performance gaps; recommend and implement solutions; monitor KPIs (e.g., OEE, cycle time, defect rates, downtime) and report to leadership.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and coordination records; communicate effectively across all levels via phone, email, and in-person.
  • Where applicable, collaborate with automation/controls vendors to specify and implement automated equipment and processes; participate in design, commissioning, FAT/SAT, and safety integration; monitor performance and ROI.
  • Perform other duties as required.
What We Look For
  • 6+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering or related roles with a focus on assembly or operations support.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles; solid problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Experience with assembly processes, process development, debugging, and lean manufacturing concepts (standard work, kaizen, etc.).
  • Proficiency in applying mathematical methods to engineering problems; ability to develop and compare alternative solutions.
  • Excellent time and project management skills; ability to manage budgets, schedules, and resources; independent judgment and decision-making.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts to non-engineering stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Canadian engineering standards and relevant codes.
  • Willingness to work in a shop environment with strict safety adherence.
  • Professional Engineering License (P.Eng.) from APEGA or eligibility to apply (preferred).
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or electrical engineering (preferred).
Preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and experience guiding cross-functional teams.
  • Experience leading assembly or production initiatives from concept through to production handover.
  • Experience with supplier/vendor management and developing ROI/business cases for manufacturing improvements.
  • Knowledge of MES/ERP interfaces, data analytics, and digital tools used to monitor production.
