This role supports the business/group leader in implementing and maintaining first line of defense (1st LOD) programs such as operational risk, AML, compliance, and regulatory adherence. The position involves overseeing business operations within the jurisdiction to ensure compliance and efficiency, fostering a strong risk management culture through collaboration with various risk functions, and ensuring risks are identified, mitigated, and reported effectively.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Recommending strategies and new initiatives to senior leaders based on in-depth business understanding.
- Serving as a subject matter expert on relevant regulations and policies.
- Integrating program elements into overall business strategies to drive impact.
- Preparing briefings for senior leaders on regulatory matters.
- Supporting multiple business units with moderate complexity and transaction risk.
- Representing the business on governance and risk forums, providing updates.
- Monitoring risk management within defined risk appetite and managing large risk programs.
- Staying updated on industry and legislative developments to keep programs effective.
- Supporting compliance by interpreting requirements, identifying gaps, and developing mitigation plans.
- Evaluating and implementing internal control systems.
- Networking with industry contacts for insights and best practices.
- Recommending business priorities, resource requirements, and developing strategic roadmaps.
- Leading resource management and execution of strategic initiatives.
- Conducting independent analyses to resolve strategic issues.
- Building relationships with stakeholders and ensuring alignment.
- Leading change management and operational programs.
- Monitoring compliance with processes and procedures, updating procedures as needed.
- Designing and assessing risk mitigation strategies.
- Tracking exemption requests and facilitating training for staff.
- Providing quality control for investigations and reviews, including regulatory responses.
- Potentially acting as the Primary Business Unit Compliance Officer or AML Reporting Officer.
- Promoting risk awareness through communication and training.
- Supporting the implementation of 1st LOD programs and frameworks, interpreting regulatory requirements.
- Analyzing business strategies, processes, and risks, and raising issues to leadership.
- Assessing program effectiveness and recommending adjustments.
- Supporting audits and regulatory examinations.
- Developing training programs to enhance compliance awareness.
- Operating at an enterprise level as a subject matter expert.
- Applying expertise to address complex, ambiguous issues and implementing adaptive changes.
Qualifications:
- Typically 7+ years of relevant experience with a related post-secondary degree or equivalent.
- Expertise in Program Management, Communication, Analytical Skills, and Data-Driven Decision Making.
- Strong collaboration, influence, and ambiguity management skills.
Salary: $86,000.00 - $160,000.00
