Base pay range

CA$175,000.00/yr - CA$200,000.00/yr

The Senior Manager of Production Finance will oversee the financial operations of visual effects (VFX) projects and supervise a team of production finance managers and production accountants. Reporting to the Director of Production Finance, the role requires managing budgeting, financial forecasting, cost tracking, and reporting for VFX projects while ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards. This position will be a key leader in managing financial operations on multiple productions, ensuring financial accuracy, and providing financial insights to both creative and production teams.

Key Responsibilities
Supervision of Production Finance Managers and Production Accountants:

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of production accountants, providing guidance and support to ensure accurate financial reporting and cost management across multiple projects
  • Ensure team members are aligned with production finance procedures and timelines
  • Review and approve work produced by the team, including daily and weekly financial reports, reconciliations, and cost tracking



Budgeting & Financial Planning:

  • Oversee the preparation of detailed production budgets, working closely with production managers, producers, and department heads to ensure alignment with project timelines and creative vision
  • Collaborate with the Director of Production Finance to develop comprehensive financial forecasts for each project
  • Review and adjust budgets as necessary to accommodate changes in production scope, ensuring that projects stay within budget while meeting financial goals



Cost Tracking & Forecasting:

  • Monitor and track project spending in real-time, ensuring all costs are accurately allocated and billed to the correct project codes
  • Provide regular updates on cost-to-completion forecasts, highlighting any financial variances and advising on corrective actions
  • Implement and maintain tracking systems to ensure accuracy and efficiency in financial reporting for all VFX productions



Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and deliver financial reports to internal stakeholders, including producers and senior management, offering insights into financial performance, budget status, and potential risks
  • Ensure that all reports comply with company policies and any client-specific requirements
  • Assist with the creation of periodic reports for external stakeholders, including clients, partners, and auditors



Cash Flow & Invoice Management:

  • Oversee the management of cash flow for projects, ensuring timely billing and collection of payments from clients and vendors
  • Work closely with accounts payable and receivable teams to ensure that invoices and payments are processed in a timely manner
  • Assist with tracking and managing tax incentives, rebates, and credits to maximize financial returns



Collaboration with Production Teams:

  • Serve as a financial liaison for production teams, providing guidance and financial support throughout the project lifecycle
  • Offer financial insights to production teams, helping them manage costs while maintaining creative flexibility
  • Identify and address potential financial risks, offering solutions and alternatives when necessary



Compliance & Auditing:

  • Ensure that all financial practices align with industry regulations, company policies, and client contracts
  • Assist in the preparation and coordination of audits, ensuring compliance with internal controls and financial reporting standards



Process Improvement:

  • Identify areas for process improvement within production finance and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Develop and help refine financial tools and systems to streamline budgeting, reporting, and tracking processes for the production finance team



Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (CPA or relevant certification preferred)
  • 7-10 years of experience in production finance, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role within the visual effects, film, or entertainment industry
  • Strong understanding of the VFX production process and financial workflows
  • Experience managing and mentoring a team of production accountants or similar professionals
  • Expertise in budgeting, cost management, financial forecasting, and cash flow management
  • High level of proficiency with financial software (e.g., Excel, Google Sheets, Workday, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with creative and production teams
  • Ability to provide clear, actionable financial insights to stakeholders at all levels
