Job summary

The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) seeks a Senior Manager, System Planning to lead a team of engineers responsible for transmission system planning and reliability standards compliance across Alberta. This is a strategic leadership role with responsibility for the Long-Term Transmission Plan (LTP) and regulatory interactions.

You will guide planning processes, models, and studies, collaborate with stakeholders, and represent AESO in proceedings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Post-graduate degree preferred (MEng/MSc/PhD).
• P.Eng. with APEGA or eligible to register.
• 15+ years of leadership in electricity transmission planning.
• Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the System Planning team, budgeting, and alignment with corporate policies.
• Ensure ARS, ISO Rules, and transmission planning requirements compliance.
• Oversee transmission planning projects and supporting studies.
• Develop and enhance planning processes, procedures, and methodologies.
• Represent AESO in regulatory proceedings and stakeholder engagements.
