Purpose

Leads and oversees a Scotiatrust Taxation Services unit in Canada, ensuring that business strategies, plans, and initiatives are executed in compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures.

Accountabilities
  1. Lead a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  2. Maintain control of the Taxation Services unit to ensure professional and profitable tax service delivery by managing and supervising staff.
  3. Handle all hiring and performance management functions for the unit.
  4. Oversee and approve all new client engagements, ensuring they meet business guidelines.
  5. Act as a contact for clients, partners, and prospects.
  6. Perform key tax preparation and review functions in complex situations.
  7. Manage the unit’s budget and support strategic planning and annual business planning.
  8. Consider the Bank’s risk appetite and culture in daily activities and decisions.
  9. Create an environment for effective operations aligned with Scotiabank’s values and compliance frameworks, including risk, AML/ATF, and conduct risks.
  10. Build a high-performance team environment, attracting, developing, and motivating staff through inclusive leadership and succession planning.
Education/Experience
  • Managerial experience in a tax unit servicing trusts and individuals.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma.
  • Proficiency in French is a strong asset.
  • Working towards or holding an accounting designation.
  • Completion of STEP or CSI Taxation Courses; staying updated on legislative changes.
  • Excellent computer skills, especially in tax software, MS Office, Salesforce, and Broadridge Trust System.
Working Conditions
  • Standard office environment; non-standard hours may occur.
  • Limited domestic travel.
  • Locations: Montreal, Ottawa, or Hamilton, ON.

Note: Due to a language needs assessment, the candidate must communicate fluently in English and French to serve diverse clients and collaborate with head office teams.
