Responsibilities

  1. Lead multiple client-facing engagement teams responsible for completing tax engagements and preparing tax returns (and other compliance slips).
  2. Deliver industry and technical expertise relating to taxation and assurance through client interactions, reports, technical work, management presentations, and high-quality deliverables.
  3. Evaluate existing business processes and policies, advise on policy and tax changes, and develop proactive tax strategies that utilize business opportunities and ensure effective business operations.
  4. Liaise with the Canada Revenue Agency and relevant provincial ministries on client issues.
  5. Prepare election forms required in corporate reorganizations.
  6. Assist in managing the administration of personal and trust tax compliance seasons.
  7. Manage a portfolio of clients, understanding their business, risks, and ways to add value; ensure needs are met and relationships grow.
  8. Plan and schedule engagements, manage project financials including budgets, WIPS, billing, collections, and variance recognition.
  9. Maintain high-quality control, applying specialized knowledge to address client issues related to business, financial entries, and reports.
  10. Network within the local business community, identify business development opportunities, and contribute to proposals.
  11. Contribute to strategic and operational planning for client and practice management, and develop new ideas to improve work processes.
  12. Mentor, motivate, and coach team members for professional and personal growth, providing feedback and conducting reviews.
  13. Maintain flexibility to travel as necessary.

Skills and Experience

  • CPA designation.
  • Completion of the In-depth Tax Program and other specialist courses.
  • 7 to 8 years of relevant public accounting or tax consulting experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of Canadian Tax.
  • Strong understanding of business, accounting, management, and practice development principles.
  • Proven leadership, relationship management, and people skills.
  • Strong strategic planning and conceptual thinking skills.
