Job description

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, contracts, and purchasing within approved controls.
  • Monitor spending and adjust priorities based on financial reports.
  • Oversee scheduling for 24/7 Security and Switchboard coverage in alignment with budget and collective agreements.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to Health & Safety, Compliance, Housekeeping, Security, and Switchboard teams.
  • Manage recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and attendance.
  • Support employee development and maintain open communication through regular meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with labour laws, collective agreements, and hospital policies.
  • Ensure compliance with OHSA, Healthcare regulations, PIDAC standards, and the Private Security and Investigative Services Act.
  • Lead safety culture initiatives, including training in safe practices and PPE usage.
  • Act as authority for fire prevention and emergency preparedness.
  • Evaluate, select, and manage security equipment and systems (CCTV, swipe access, emergency pendants).
  • Conduct building inspections and address safety/security risks.
  • Oversee Trespass to Property Act procedures and unusual occurrence follow-ups.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain departmental policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and ensure completion of all mandatory training and licensing.
  • Lead and/or participate in audits, quality reviews, and emergency response planning.
  • Prepare management and status reports and communicate operational updates to staff.
  • Represent the department in internal committees (JHSC, Infection Prevention, Emergency Codes, etc.).
  • Support Intake Services through clear task coordination with Switchboard Operators.
  • Coordinate cybersecurity initiatives in partnership with IT.
  • Administer parking policy and related exceptions.

What We’re Looking For

  • Law & Security Diploma is required; a Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Ontario Security Guard License, OHSA Part 1 & 2 JHSC Certification (Healthcare / Construction), CPR and First Aid are also required; knowledge of Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC) best practices is preferred.
  • 8 years’ experience managing a Security or related department in a large healthcare or commercial facility.
  • 5 years’ project management, including implementation of security software/hardware and large-scale emergency management planning.
  • 1-2 years’ experience within a healthcare setting including involvement with Infection Control and environmental procedures.
  • Experience supervising within a unionized environment is considered a strong asset.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities.
  • Articulate verbal and written communicator with exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Solid organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated success with complex budget preparation, expense management, and anticipating/planning for future needs.
  • Advanced proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple demands.
  • Commitment to working within Homewood’s Health and Safety Standards.
