The Senior Manager, working with the Director, leads and oversees Global Finance - Internal Control Testing, monitoring, and quality control across Canada and all of Finance. Ensures that business strategies, plans, and initiatives are executed and delivered in compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and foster a customer-focused culture within the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Plan and execute testing of internal controls and monitor risk indicators in Global Finance, aligning with the 1-B mandate and developing test plans based on emerging risks.
- Contribute to the development of the annual testing plan, coordinate with other functions, and report on testing results.
- Stay informed of changes in processes, regulations, and issues impacting control testing priorities, maintaining current knowledge of regulatory and operational requirements.
- Develop testing procedures to evaluate the effectiveness of controls in managing risks, review documentation, and present issues and recommendations to management.
- Work closely with Business Line management to understand compliance risks and adjust testing approaches accordingly.
- Build a risk-effective and cost-efficient testing program, incorporating automation and data analytics tools like Power BI and Alteryx.
- Conduct thematic analysis and root cause investigations on issues, linking them to overall risks and prioritizing control effectiveness.
- Consider the bank’s risk appetite and culture in daily activities and decisions.
- Create an environment of effective and efficient operations aligned with Bank values and controls, ensuring compliance with operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk standards.
- Build a high-performance team environment, attracting, developing, and motivating staff through inclusive practices, coaching, and succession planning.
Qualifications:
- University degree or higher in finance, accounting, or related discipline.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA/CA) with experience in auditing internal controls or financial reporting within a large financial institution.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in audit, testing, controls, or financial reporting.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting standards, regulatory compliance, and financial laws impacting banks.
- Strong understanding of risk, internal controls, and testing methodologies, with proficiency in related tools.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- Highly organized, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
