What Is the Opportunity?
Reporting to the Integrated Operational Controls (IOC) Sr. Director, the Sr. Manager, Project Controls has the responsibility to help drive the successful execution of high-profile civil construction initiatives by ensuring project compliance, accurate performance tracking, and proactive risk management of projects across the Sector. Working with the IOC Sector’s Leads, the role will support the establishment and implementation of processes, standards, and expectations for Project Controls as well as their interfaces with related disciplines such as procurement, prime and subcontract administration, estimating, and finance.
What You'll Do Here:
- Ensure projects’ compliance with Aecon’s Civil Project Controls standards and contractual obligations during pursuit and execution phases.
- Support Project Teams to establish and maintain integrated Project Controls Systems, including cost, schedule, and risk baselines.
- Provide guidance and necessary training to Project Controls professionals in planning, scheduling, cost control, change management, risk management, and reporting.
- Support IOC Sector Leads and Project Leaders in tracking project health and implementing effective communication plans. Contribute to the continuous improvement of Aecon’s Civil Project Controls policies and guidelines.
- Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of Project Controls plans, including Earned Value Management to measure performance and enhance forecasting accuracy.
- Support performance reviews, provide feedback, propose improvement plans, and communicate status updates effectively.
- Oversee project performance metrics (CPI, SPI, key commodity tracking) and recommend corrective actions as needed.
- Support Commercial and Procurement teams with claims assessment, negotiations, and dispute resolutions.
- Provide commercial and technical expertise for proposal development and project control requirements.
- Establish strong relationships with clients and joint venture partners.
- Support qualitative and quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) and communicate findings to project leadership.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business, or equivalent.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in the construction industry with various roles within Project Controls. Experience in an infrastructure contractor organization in complex projects is highly desired.
- Strong expertise in planning, scheduling, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, estimating, cost control, risk management, change management, and analytics.
- In-depth knowledge of Earned Value Management principles, production and productivity tracking, cost, and revenue forecasting.
- Ability to produce, read, and modify project schedules and reports.
- Significant knowledge of all project management functions, including procurement, materials control, contract administration, and project cost accounting.
- Professional certifications such as PMI PMP, PMI-RMP, PMI-SP, AACEI CCP, and/or PSP are considered assets.
- Proficiency in SAP, Microsoft Office Suite, PowerBI, Power Apps, and project controls software such as Primavera P6, TILOS, and InEight Estimate/Hard Dollar.
- Data-oriented with experience handling large data sets and models. Experience with databases and programming languages is desirable.
- Ability to establish program policies and evaluate their effectiveness.
- Proven leadership skills with experience managing project controls teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated, eager to learn, and proactive. Detail-oriented with a customer-focused mindset.
- Willingness to travel frequently across Canada to project sites.
Salary - $150,000.00 - $170,000.00
