Role Description

The Mechanical Engineering team at Form is focused on designing the battery cell, module, and system enclosure that forms the foundation of our innovative utility-scale multi-day energy storage system. We strive to deliver designs that are optimized for performance, quality, reliability, and cost for high-volume manufacturing at Form Factory.

We're hiring an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead our module & enclosure structures design team in Berkeley, CA. This team is focused on supporting mechanical definition, design, execution of the structural elements of our battery modules and system enclosure. The enclosure forms the backbone of our battery system and interfaces with all critical sub-systems. The team is tasked with ensuring designs are performant, and optimally meet requirements across the spectrum of assembly, transportation, site deployment, maintenance, and end-of-life. The team will work closely with cross functional partners such as systems integration, cell design, supply chain, and manufacturing to develop cohesive designs. In this role, you will manage a team of design engineers in support of design and build activities while acting as a player-coach to effectively grow and mentor a well rounded engineering team in our fast-paced technical environment. What you'll do :

Manage and grow a world-class team of mechanical design and structural engineers

Lead the mechanical and structural design and optimization of Form Energy's iron-air battery module and enclosure

Collaborate with an interdisciplinary teams of structural & CFD analysts, system integration, manufacturing, and transportation & logistics team to develop optimized designs for performance, cost, and reliability throughout the full development cycle

Contribute to the design and testing of internal engineering prototypes

What you'll bring :

Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; with 11+ years of industry experience

Demonstrated experience leading, managing, and mentoring direct reports

Experience designing for high-volume manufacture in a hardware product development company

Expert knowledge of sheet-metal fabrication, metal joining techniques, metal material finishes

Experience designing large outdoor metal enclosures, seals, closures, and ingress protection

Experience defining products and engineering requirements, and implementing FMEA principles

Familiarity with relevant standards such as : UL50, UL9540, ASCE 7

FEA experience, SE / PE license, or energy storage / high power product experience is a plus

Strong technical communication skills, especially with external parties and across internal functional teams
