The University of British Columbia seeks a Senior Manager for its Library IT department. The successful candidate will provide leadership and technical direction while managing a diverse suite of applications and ensuring compliance with security policies. This role entails strategic planning, budgeting, and direct supervision of IT professionals to enhance library operations across multiple campuses.

The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Description Summary
The Senior Manager provides overall management and technical leadership of a major functional area including multiple lines of services. Determines, leads, and manages the strategic vision and direction for UBC IT Library operations in alignment with the UBC Library and UBC IT strategy for multiple UBC campuses. Implements information security and information technology infrastructure policies to ensure systems in the portfolio are secure, compliant with complex legal requirements, and compatible with University-wide systems. Determines, budgets, and establishes standards for the operation of the UBC IT Library. Provides leadership, development and guidance to staff.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Director, Digital Enablement and takes direction from Director, Engagement Services and Associate University Librarian, Library Digital Programs and Services.
Works with various departments within the University to ensure that Library’s Information Technology ecosystem is compatible and interoperable with the infrastructure of various co-operating departments. Works with external vendors to ensure the efficient operation of commercial and custom developed solutions. Works with Library management and senior leadership to ensure systems are in place to meet their needs and continuously improved. The incumbent supervises a team of IT professionals and participates in a variety of stakeholder groups internal and external to UBC.

Information Technology plays a key role in enabling the University to achieve its goal of becoming one of the world’s leading universities. The Senior Manager is responsible for the implementation and operation of critical IT services to academic units with responsibility for teaching, learning and scholarship. As well as administrative units responsible for the efficient, cost effective delivery of a wide range of services and processes that must meet the needs of students, faculty and staff.
Failure to meet service level obligations for performance and availability of services could adversely impact the University community, including the large majority of students, faculty and staff, and could cost millions of dollars in lost productivity, funding and revenue. It also risks damaging the reputation of UBC and UBC IT.
Supervision Received
Reports to the Director, Digital Enablement and takes direction from Director, Engagement Services and Associate University Librarian, Library Digital Programs and Services. The incumbent must be able to work independently and assume full responsibility for their decisions.
Supervision Given
Manages staff directly and indirectly through subordinate managers; oversees deliverables assigned to Contractors other individuals on a project basis.
Minimum Qualifications
Post-graduate degree. Minimum of ten years of related experience including at least four years of managerial experience plus three years of specialized experience in the design and implementation of major computer systems, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proven experience with Strategic planning within an IT environment, including: budget forecasting, resources planning, and IT trending.
Proven experience leading and managing a team of IT professionals.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with all levels of users.
Ability to plan and manage the design and development of databases and complex applications.
Knowledge of UBC Information Technology systems and protocols.
Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, set work priorities, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Working knowledge of Academic Library methodologies and tools.
