We are looking for a Senior Manager, IT/Data Risk and Assurance to providedirection, oversight and strong governance over the Data and IT risks and controls (including Data Governance), to ensure that Aviva protects its customers and shareholders

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Manager of Data &IT Risk Oversight to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our enterprise-wide data risk management framework. This role will be responsible for coordinating data risk governance, ensuring data related risks are effectively identified, assessed, and mitigated in alignment with industry standard processes and evolving regulatory expectations.

What you'll do:
  • Work with the AVP, Enterprise Risk, to influence the effective management of key risks and embedding of risk culture in relation to Information Technology including Security and Architecture, Data Governance, Data Science and Data Management at Aviva.

  • Provide specialist insight and analysis of the IT and Data risk profile and risk appetites monitoring through the review and challenge of reports and analysis performed by the first line of defense.

  • Identification and assessment of emerging risks and support business leaders in identifying appropriate management and mitigation of emerging exposures.

  • Support local initiatives from a risk perspective.

  • Represent the Risk team at various forums

  • Identification of industry standard methodology approaches for risk and control management / assurance to drive continuous improvement

  • Lead the design and execution of the data risk oversight strategy aligned with enterprise risk management and data governance frameworks in place.

  • Build and maintain relationships with key collaborators to ensure effective collaboration on data risk management matters and alignment with company's risk management strategies.

  • Promote a strong risk and data governance culture, and identify interventions required to support its ongoing development

  • Provide Operational Risk and Control Management (ORCM) guidance including carrying out Quality Assurance of iCARE risks, issues and events.

  • Provide oversight and support to ensure robust risk governance processes to drive and supervise performance across the business.

  • Support deep dives on inherent and residual risk faced by Aviva Canada in relation to Data loss risks.

  • Periodically analyze relevant risk data (internal and external) to identify emerging trends, common themes at an aggregate level.

  • Provide 1st line Risk leadership and management support to high-risk change Programs, including the development of risk understanding and risk artifacts on the program to support safe delivery and protection of operational risks

  • Provide feedback to 1st line for RCSAs

  • Stay current on emerging risks such as cyber threats, climate-related data risk, and AI governance.

  • Working collaboratively with the1st and 3rd lines of defense

  • Be a trusted business partner for Data team and support IT teams

  • Deliver to the corporate standards for effective, appropriately risk-based policies, procedures and methodologies in support of the risk and governance framework

  • Ensure there is reliable and appropriate risk management information across the business to support risk position

What you'll bring:
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Excellent planning and execution skills

  • Effective interpersonal, leadership, and relationship-building skills in engaging with various levels of management.

  • Demonstrated ability (3-5 years) working within first, second- or third-line function ideally within technology and/or Data

  • Good understanding of operational risk, in particular, IT and Data risk and frameworks

  • Have good knowledge of the ORCM and Data Governance frameworks.

  • Good understanding of Data architecture and technology. Snowflake knowledge is an asset

  • Understanding of the regulatory environment as it pertains to IT and Data risks

  • Understanding of IT risk, control and security models, standards and frameworks (e.g. COBIT, ITIL)

  • Diploma or degree in Engineering Computer Science or other related field or equivalent experience.

  • IT, Data management, Cloud qualifications or equivalent

  • Risk Management Experience will be considered and asset
