Reporting to the VP, Fund Development, the Senior Manager, Individual Giving will be responsible for revenue generation and the creation and execution of the organization’s individual giving strategy which includes mid-major individual giving, monthly giving, tribute giving, direct mail and digital giving, and planned giving. The Senior Manager, Individual Giving will support the overall objectives, develop strategy, develop fundraising models, project plans, tactics, and evaluation standards to maximize revenue growth. This position will oversee Specialist, Individual Giving and possibly more in the future.

Responsibilities :

Leadership and Management

  • Co-create, with the VP, Fund Development and Fund Development team, the annual individual operating plan (excluding major / leadership gifts), leading the process and setting key performance indicators and objectives for Digital Giving, Tribute Giving, Planned Giving, Mid-Major Giving, Direct Mail and Monthly Donors.
  • Lead, develop and manage the annual fundraising budget, revenue and expenses, for the Individual Giving portfolio.
  • With the VP, Fund Development, develop multi-year growth strategies for individual fund development and assist in the identification of potential major gift donors from the direct donor pool.
  • Liaise and act as the primary contact with Direct Mail vendor which includes annual planning, budgeting, statuses, and reviews and approvals of creative materials.
  • Engage the Board of Directors by introducing thank you calls for monthly, mid-major, planned giving donors and long-term loyal donors.
  • Develop reports and presentations to the Board and senior management related to owned portfolios and other subjects of expertise.
  • Actively participates as a member of the Leadership Forum team and the Fund Development management team, bringing both a cross-organizational lens and the perspective of individual donors and fundraising strategies.
  • Working closely with the VP, Fund Development and the VP, Marketing, Strategic Communication and Knowledge Exchange, develop agreed upon and brand aligned messaging for all direct fundraising communication. For example, annual Year-End online giving campaign.
  • Working closely with the Sr. Manager, Database and Donor Services and the Marketing, Strategic Communications and Knowledge Exchange team, actively participate in data management strategies and externally facing donor tools like the ALS website(s), Raiser’s Edge NXT and Engaging Networks.

Revenue Generation

  • Oversee all individual direct giving programs, including identification of major gift prospects for action by the VP, Fund Development and other senior members of the organization.
  • Meet or exceed the overall revenue targets for all annual giving portfolios which includes monthly giving, platform giving, tribute and direct marketing (direct mail and digital marketing) fundraising programs established within the annual operations plan.
  • Plan and execute the Planned Giving program, including identification and cultivation of donors from the direct donor pool, supported by the Specialists, Fund Development.
  • Work with vendor partner(s) to successfully plan and deliver the direct mail and digital marketing program.
  • Act as the internal lead for direct mail and digital program donor content, targeted data segments, and data and content approvals, including overseeing project management of direct and digital fundraising programs.
  • Identify prospects for inclusion in the giving pipeline or other potential growth opportunities.
  • Provide regular individual giving financial reports and dashboards to inform direct marketing strategies for individuals.
  • Review and develop a comprehensive tribute giving program.
  • Research best practices and recent trends in annual giving portfolios : monthly giving, planned giving, tribute and direct mail and digital marketing fundraising, and make recommendations for advancements in the portfolios.

Cultivation and Stewardship

  • Oversee the stewardship strategy for individual giving (excluding major / leadership gifts), including working closely with donor services to ensure that donors are receiving appropriate and timely thank you calls, letters, texts and emails.
  • Actively participating in the development and execution of an overall fundraising stewardship strategy, working closely with the Senior Manager, Fundraising Events, Senior Manager, Leadership Gifts and the VP, Fund Development.
  • Foster and deepen relationships with donors through emails, phone calls, invitations to events and handwritten letters where appropriate, balancing high-touch engagements with mass marketing stewardship and cultivation.
  • Respond to more complex donation inquiries from donors across all individual giving portfolios (excluding major / leadership gifts).
  • Develop individual donor journeys and plan and execute delivery of donor journeys across platforms and tools.
  • Improve retention of donors by working with digital vendor to implement email welcome journeys for prospects, new one-time gift and monthly donors.
  • Improve retention of platform giving donors by creating and executing a donor journey with a focus on stewardship.
  • Enhance monthly giving program marketing and improve donor journey for monthly donors with a focus on stewardship touchpoints.
  • Oversee Specialist, Fund Development to develop a comprehensive donor journey for Planned Giving pipeline, with a focus on stewardship.

People Management and Administration

  • Supervise and mentor the Specialist, Individual Giving, and other direct reports as required, including recruitment, training / development, performance evaluation, and employee engagement.
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Communications teams to ensure consistency of brand and voice across portfolios and to seek input and expertise on externally facing fundraising content.
  • Work closely with Donor Services and database team on ensuring Engaging Networks donation platform and donation processing is accurate and follows best practice.
  • Manage vendor relationships and negotiations with vendors for support such as direct mail, telemarketing, digital and design, including active management of vendor-related budgets and strategies.
  • Ensure Raiser’s Edge database is kept updated with timely and accurate information on all prospects and current donors including communications, reporting requirements, opportunities, and proposal submissions.
  • Other duties as required

What we are looking for :

  • 5+ years of experience in successful direct individual fundraising
  • Demonstrated experience organizing and managing a fundraising portfolio with a proven track record of meeting targets
  • Minimum 2 years of people management experience in a multi-level fundraising environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to sensitively convey an authentic vision, in proposal and report development and donor presentations
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build and negotiate successful working relationships with internal and external partners
  • Proficiency in standard office software and Raiser’s Edge or other fundraising software, information resources and publications, including fundraising databases and on-line services. Experience with Engaging Networks is an asset.
  • Excellent project management skills, including planning and critical evaluation of an initiative and designing metrics to monitor performance
  • Understanding of sector trends in corporate social responsibility / community investment and sponsorship
  • Inherent demonstration of ALS Canada core values : accountability, collaboration, compassion, integrity, dynamic and respect
  • Experience in not for profit, health charity

Special Considerations

  • Extended hours and weekend work required from time to time
  • Some travel may be required to attend donor and stakeholder meetings
