JABC is seeking a strategic and relationship-driven Senior Manager, Indigenous Communities in the Lower Mainland area, to grow and strengthen Indigenous relations, ensuring expanded reach of JABC programs in Indigenous communities. If you are passionate about youth education, community development, and fostering partnerships with Indigenous educators, leaders, and volunteers, this role is for you!

As a key member of our Programs team, you will play an important role in developing relationships with Indigenous communities, recruiting and supporting volunteers, and collaborating with educators and community organizations to increase JABC’s impact. Your work will ultimately help more Indigenous youth gain access to JABC programming aimed to support youth in developing essential financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

You will report to the VP Programs and your key duties will include:

Community & Educator Engagement

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities, educators, and community leaders to increase program reach and impact.
• Establish relations and partnerships with Indigenous organizations and Economic Councils, leveraging their expertise in youth education, finance, and business development.
• Travel to meet with First Nations in-person, ensuring strong relationship-building and trust. In-person engagement is essential.
• Ensure registration, recordkeeping, and stewardship of educators and community organizations to achieve quarterly and annual program delivery goals.
• Develop and implement engagement plans to foster long-term relationships and retention.
• Identify, recruit, onboard and screen volunteers, from Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, to facilitate JABC programs.
• Ensure a welcoming and inclusive approach to volunteer engagement, recognizing diverse perspectives and cultural considerations.
• Develop and implement engagement plans to ensure stewardship practices that foster long-term relationships and retention.

Company Program for Indigenous Learners (CPI):

• Oversee all aspects of CPI, including the community, educator and volunteer engagement and stewardship necessary to ensure the successful delivery of the programs.
• Develop opportunities for CPI engagements through outreach to educators and community partners
• For CPI programs delivered in partnership with UBC Sauder, be the liaison with Sauder representatives to carry out the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding.
• Work with school districts to confirm the preferred curriculum, timing, and delivery of the program and oversee the amendment of the program and development of new resources accordingly.
• Coordinate the supply and delivery of program materials and resources.
• Attend programs in person or virtually to lead and/or assist with the facilitation of program lessons as needed.

Program Coordination & Delivery:

• Contribute to program impact reports, collect student feedback and share success stories highlighting community involvement and student achievements.
• Collaborate with the marketing and program teams to develop compelling proposals and presentations that highlight JABC’s impact and value proposition.
• Encourage participants in programs to apply for scholarships and awards according to their eligibility and facilitate their applications to ensure their representation among the applicants.
• Ensure accurate and current data in Salesforce related to programs.

Strategic Growth & Development:

• Collaborate with JABC’s Program team to implement program enhancements and new initiatives tailored to Indigenous learners.
• Work closely with JABC’s Marketing team to develop promotional assets that effectively communicate JABC’s mission, programs, and value proposition to Indigenous communities and stakeholders.
• Lead and support key projects, including alumni stewardship initiatives, and event planning to foster community engagement.
• Support the development of funding proposals and donor stewardship activities to sustain and grow programming.
• Represent JABC at community events, education forums, and networking opportunities to promote partnerships.
• Develop and maintain connections with alumni of program, seeking ways to engage them as volunteers or other involvement.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a background in education, with experience in teaching or facilitating educational programs. They must have a deep understanding of Indigenous perspectives, culture, and teachings along with demonstrated experience and knowledge in integrating Indigenous perspectives into educational programming and facilitating lessons that honor and respect Indigenous cultures and teachings.

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills to effectively engage with Indigenous communities and interest-holders. An appreciation for Indigenous knowledge systems and a commitment to fostering cultural awareness and understanding are essential for this role.

Education and Experience:

• Experience working with Indigenous communities, with a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, perspectives, and protocols. While lived experience within an Indigenous community is an asset, it is not a requirement.
• Proven track record in business development and strategic partnership-building, with the ability to drive measurable outcomes.
• Expertise in stewardship of community partners, donors, educators, and volunteers.
• Experience managing complex projects and working within a cross-functional collaborative environment to advance organizational priorities.
• Experience managing a team.
• Developed communication, public speaking, and relationship-building skills.
• Knowledge of Indigenous education frameworks, economic development strategies, and community engagement best practices.
• Experience in a non-profit, corporate social responsibility, education, or youth-focused setting is an asset.

Compensation

This is a permanent, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Some evening work may be required. The salary range of this position is $65,000 to $85,000 per annum. Employment offers are determined by knowledge, experience, and internal equity.

The successful candidate must be based in the Lower Mainland and be able to attend regular meetings in the downtown office and external meetings as required. This is a hybrid role, which includes working from JABC’s downtown office 3 days per week or as agreed to with the VP, Programs. Travel is part of the role and will include meeting with First Nations communities, school districts and other educational institutes, not-for-profits, etc. in person.
